Michael Douglas: Feeling "Stronger," Preparing for New Movie

Michael Douglas is not cancer-free just yet.

But the Oscar-winning actor, who was diagnosed in August, tells People he feels "stronger everyday," as he continues to undergo treatment, recognizing: "It's a long road back."

Michael Douglas Image

Part of that road involves prepping for his next role. The 66-year old will take the title role in Liberace, a biopic directed by Steven Soderbergh.

"I've got a bunch of tapes of performances," he said of the real-life character. "I'm thinking; I'm a blank slate. Everything shows me he was a lovely man; I just want to reconfirm that."

The movie stars shooting this spring, which should give Douglas plenty more time to spend with his family. He spent Thanksgiving weekend with wife Catherine Zeta-Jones and their kids at Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando.

Leslie Nielsen Remembered By David Zucker

'Airplane!' and 'Naked Gun' producer/writer/director pays tribute to the actor, who died Sunday.
By Gil Kaufman

Relationships of Hollywood movie sets tend to be shallow, short-lived and mostly a put-on. But when producer/writer/director David Zucker, his brother, Jerry, and their partner Jim Abrahams cast Leslie Nielsen in their 1979 disaster spoof "Airplane!," they had no idea that they would not only provide a second life to a hard-working actor's career, but gain a true friend in the process.

(For photos of the late actor throughout his career, click here.)

David Zucker penned a loving tribute to Nielsen — who died on Sunday at age 84 due to complications from pneumonia — for the Hollywood Reporter on Monday, paying homage to a man he said he was barely aware of when he cast him in the classic comedy, but who came to be one of his favorite people.

"It was summer 1979, a full three weeks before the start of shooting for 'Airplane!' and our casting director had finally had enough. Lloyd Bridges, Robert Stack, Peter Graves and now Leslie ... who?" Zucker said of the career actors who'd been tapped to lampoon their on-screen personas for the film.

"At least audiences had heard of the first three, but this guy — it was true, when it came time to select an actor to play Dr. Rumack, my brother Jerry, Jim Abrahams and I remembered: 'This one guy, he's been in hundreds of television shows, and I think he played the captain of the Poseidon. What's his name?' Our research revealed that the actor's name was Leslie Nielsen. Jim, Jerry and I were thrilled when he agreed to meet, not because he was 'funny' but because of his long résumé of serious films and TV."

The trio thought Nielsen was "hysterical," saying his career of straight dramatic roles made him perfect for the role of clueless doctor Rumack. In fact, when they watched his earlier films they laughed, even if the movies weren't supposed to be funny.

"At our first meeting, he mentioned proudly that he had done an episode of 'M*A*S*H*.' We assured him we wouldn't count this brief comedy experience against him. But when he read the 'Airplane!' script, he 'got' its unconventional nature and offbeat style. We heard later that he told his agent, 'Take whatever they offer; I'd pay them to do this.'

"Arguably the best role was that of Dr. Rumack, played by the guy no one wanted or ever suspected would be funny, much less go on to have a second career starring in feature films as a goofball comic," Zucker continues. "Leslie was great in the role because he never 'winked' — let on that he knew he was in a comedy. This was essential to the style, and Leslie had a natural instinct for it."

They went on to an "Airplane!" sequel and a trio of "Naked Gun" movies and a "Police Squad!" TV series. And in all those projects, Zucker said he and his partners didn't have to shower Nielsen with praise to let him know he was nailing it. When he heard Zucker laughing during the take, Nielsen knew he'd nailed it.

"Tough to just sit there silently during 'Nice beaver!' "Zucker wrote of cracking up on set. "Offscreen, he wasn't so much of a joke or storyteller but a chronic prankster. The stories are legion about the fart machine, which he kept hidden and sprang on any hapless stranger who approached him. He used it on set, on talk shows, anywhere he could find a victim. One time, at a press junket in Charlotte, I remember watching Leslie let loose with the device on a crowded elevator, the other occupants squirming up against the walls in an effort to distance themselves. And just like the scenes we put him in, he never broke character, never let on that he knew he was being funny."

For a man who had spent his career playing it straight, Nielsen relished his newfound status as an "international comedy icon," treating it as a kind of prank he'd pulled on the rest of us.

Zucker said he always tried to find a slot for Nielsen in his movies as the years went on and Nielsen was always happy to oblige. And, invariably, he was the funniest part of each project.

"We invariably would get to discussing our history together, reminiscing a bit and renewing our good-natured debate about who the hell was luckier to have met the other, Leslie Nielsen or the Zucker-Abrahams-Zucker team," Zucker said of their later encounters. "The truth was, all of us knew how grateful we were to have each other in our lives, both professionally and personally, and we expressed it to each other often. Leslie was grateful for everything in his life (most especially his wife Barbaree), almost as though he didn't feel he deserved any of it. Maybe that's why he was so happy.   "And maybe that's why he was so good at making everyone else happy."

How Did 30 Seconds To Mars Pull Off Ambitious 'Hurricane' Video?

Jared Leto labored day and night to finish eventual 13-minute-plus short film.
By James Montgomery

30 Seconds to Mars' Jared Leto in "Hurricane"

In early November, following his band's performance of "Hurricane" with Kanye West at the 2010 MTV Europe Music Awards and months of adjective-filled hyperbole about the single's accompanying video, Jared Leto finally unveiled 30 Seconds to Mars' "Hurricane" clip on Monday (November 29). OK, "short film." The singer decided to provide the sneak peek during an impromptu (though well-catered) screening for a handful of folks — including MTV News — in his bedroom at the ME Hotel in Madrid.

It was very late at night (or very early in the morning, depending on how you choose to look at these sort of things), and Leto was extremely clear about the fact that this was still "a very rough cut" of the video, playing the thing on a MacBook Pro and pausing every few frames to explain where a CG effect would be inserted or how the sound design would be shaped. But despite those facts (or, maybe, because of them), everyone left that bedroom thinking the exact same thing: "How the heck is Jared going to pull this off?"

You couldn't blame them, because just weeks later, the final, 13-minute version debuted on MTV.com, and it did, indeed, contain a number of impressive CGI effects of the type you might see in a Hollywood superhero summer movie, not to mention enough NC-17-rated material to make "Eyes Wide Shut" look like "Love & Other Drugs" by comparison.

At the time, not only was "Hurricane" clocking in at around 20 minutes, it was sort of insane, too: a nightmarish rumination on sex and violence and secret fetishes that not only featured plenty of fight scenes (and nudity), but didn't shy away from politically loaded imagery. Among the ones that made the cut was one in which a rabbi, priest and imam are seen tossing their holy prayer books onto a blazing pyre in a dank alley and another in which Leto battled a leather-masked foe in a courtyard littered with American-flag-draped coffins. (Spoiler alert, someone you know ends up in one of those coffins.)

Part snuff film, part BBC World report, it was, in short, filled with the kind of stuff that makes censors cringe, in an era where that's increasingly difficult to do. Following some cuts, the finished product contains a number of scenes seemingly too-hot-to-handle, which are dispatched with a big black "censored" bar. Though given the copious nudity, S&M play, barely there fetish gear and one quick-cut image of a woman spitting into another's mouth, you kind of have to wonder what was so deviant that it couldn't make the cut among all these dark fantasies?

Add in the fact that Leto was attempting to weave three separate narratives -- the members of 30STM each battling their personal demons and unlocking secret fantasies — in between all that sex and blood and book-burning, and you have the makings of a major undertaking. Considering that, according to his label, the video was due to premiere at the end of the month, Leto was then cutting the thing full-time, in the midst of a world tour, with the help of a team of editors that traveled with him everywhere he went.

It seemed that, in just about every conceivable manner, "Hurricane" was a monster, an ode to not only Leto's ego, but his unyielding ambition and utterly unmatched enthusiasm, which, in theory, made it not unlike everything he's ever attempted with 30 Seconds to Mars. But everyone who saw it that night in Madrid knew differently. "Hurricane" may very well have been Leto going too far, pushing too hard. It seemed practically destined to remain forever unfinished.

But, like the song's guest rapper West, Leto is a hard man to deter, and he clearly got his way, delivering a 13-minute mind-bender that involves secret keys that unlock dark fears, treachery, seduction, submission, an unexplained cockroach cameo, a silver sexual aid on a platter and enough creepy masks to make Slipknot shudder.

Somehow, by Monday, Leto had wrangled all those dark thoughts and visions into one dizzying whole and brought "Hurricane" home for its premiere. It would have been hard to find many people in the room that night who would have put money on "Hurricane" coming ashore in such record time. Well, except Leto. He knew.

30 Seconds To Mars Unveil Epic 'Hurricane' Video

Clip mixes fetish looks with cinema-worthy stunts, but no Kanye West cameo.
By Gil Kaufman

30 Seconds to Mars' Jared Leto in "Hurricane"
Photo: EMI

Jared Leto never goes halfway. That's why the epic video for 30 Seconds to Mars' new single "Hurricane" sometimes feels like a summer blockbuster squished down into a 13-minute box. Part "Eyes Wide Shut" fetish flick, part action movie and all a bit confusing, the video that director Bartholomew Cubbins (a.k.a. Leto) has been promising will be "very sexual," violent and a "surrealistic nightmare dream-fantasy" is all those things and more. Plus a lot of things we can't even really get into here.

Premiering on MTV.com on Monday (November 29), the mini-movie is broken into chapters, beginning with movie-style titles announcing "Hurricane," then the subtitles "this is not reality" and "this is a dream." As Chapter 1, "Birth," unfolds, ominous lighting flashes over New York City at night as drummer Shannon Leto speeds through its streets on a motorcycle.

A shirtless Jared Leto is awakened in his apartment by a knock on the door only to find nobody there and a stack of Polaroid surveillance photos of him lying in bed (shirtless, of course). A creepy gimp wearing a black suit and leather mask and toting a sledgehammer bursts into the room, sending Leto flying out of a 40-story window to the street below.

The gimp is right behind him and danger lurks all around as guitarist Tomo Milicevic encounters a woman in black leather bunny fetish gear being led around a subway station by another leather-masked baddie. Milicevic dispatches the dude with a gut punch and makes out with the fetish queen, yanking a key on a red rope out of his mouth after their hookup.

Chapter 2, "Life," begins with Shannon crashing his bike to avoid running over a woman lying prone in the street, even as his brother dresses up a lingerie-wearing beauty in a leather eye-mask and horse's bit. The beautiful stranger stabs Shannon in the gut unexpectedly, yet he's fine enough to toss the key in slow motion into the street.

And then, believe it or not, that's when things get really weird. A rabbi, a priest and an imam show up and toss their respective holy books into a bonfire in an alley (also in slow motion, natch), and Leto jogs by a building where he finds the key hanging out of a door.

Cue quick-cut scenes of a silver knife, a cockroach, a woman spitting into another woman's mouth, a buxom beauty in a steampunk gas mask, some back licking, booty smacking and handcuff play, not to mention yet another black-barred image with the words "Censored Sisyphus Corporation" over them, and you have the perfect setup for Leto walking through rows of caskets draped in the American flag as the sledgehammer dude clocks him in the face.

Leto falls into his own coffin and is nailed in it before the camera cuts to a pair of topless women in fishnet stockings guarding a door and striking provocative poses as an unseen hand takes the lid off a plate containing, yes, a silver vibrator. Ominous music begins to play while a procession of death-mask-wearing marchers bearing torches make their way through Central Park, where Shannon meets up with his assailant, kisses her and is promptly shackled to a park bench. Dude, how could you fall for that again?

Surrounded by guys in creepy bunny and bird masks, he uses the key to unshackle himself and beat them up, while brother Jared is freaking out inside the casket and uses his red key to set himself free. He drops down into the street amid a stream of other unmentionable fetish clips while Tomo uses his red key to unlock a book with a secret message in it that we never get to see.

Which brings us to Chapter 3, "Death," opening with children scrawling in an alley with sidewalk chalk and Jared realizing his torso is covered with cryptic tattoos. He doesn't seem to mind, as he's busy hooking up with a beauty in lingerie.

Censored scene, more fetish play, Shannon making out with his girl again, Jared taking the masked gimp to the cleaners in a slo-mo fistfight, a strobe-light recap of the whole thing, and somehow 13 minutes have passed by in a daze.

When he teased the clip at the MTV Europe Music Awards in Madrid earlier this month, Leto said the point was to weave three separate narratives together -- the members of 30STM each battling their personal demons and unlocking secret fantasies -- in between all that sex and blood and book-burning. But, alas, given how busy 30STM and Kanye West both are at the moment, the Yeezy cameo didn't come together for this cut of the film.

Maybe next time.

Leslie Nielsen Dies At 84

Leslie Nielsen: A Fan's Appreciation

Read a tribute to the 'Airplane!' and 'Naked Gun' funnyman, who died Sunday at age 84.
By Eric Ditzian

Leslie Nielsen
Photo: Paramount Pictures

Owning a VHS tape of "Airplane!" was utterly pointless. The disaster-flick spoof played on what seemed like a near-constant basic-cable loop, available to feed the insatiable need for a first grader to hear Leslie Nielsen quip, yet again, that while everyone on his ill-fated flight was served steak or fish, he managed to dine on lasagna.

But there was a certain comfort in knowing that I had access to the movie any time I needed a quick fix. And I needed it often. For me, there was simply nothing else like it. I didn't know movies could do what "Airplane!" did. A glue-sniffing, pill-popping air-traffic controller? A little girl who takes her coffee black, just like her men? And what the heck was Kareem Abdul-Jabbar doing there?

(For photos of the late funnyman throughout his career, click here.)

"Airplane!" is a deeply strange movie, and its strangeness had the effect, even after countless viewings, of keeping the film endlessly surprising. How is that even possible? I knew every line and still it felt like anything could happen at any moment. It never got old.

Nor did Nielsen, so it seemed. He remained almost unfairly frozen in time — with that same white helmet of hair, that same doughy-skinned face he sported in "Airplane!," and then later in the "Naked Gun" trilogy. He was a man without a past. It would be decades before I learned of his previous work as a dramatic actor. I knew only what I saw on screen: one of the funniest damn people in the world. And so it was with great sadness that I read of Nielsen's passing on Sunday at the age of 84.

My first encounters with "Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad" were a shock to the system. My thinking went something like, "You mean to tell me there's a funnier movie than 'Airplane?' " As Lieutenant Frank Drebin, Nielsen just slayed me. The scenes where he crashes a major league baseball game, impersonating an opera singer named Enrico Pallazzo and then stepping into the role of call-botching home plate umpire remain some of the funniest stuff I've ever seen.

At least that's the way I remember it. It's been a while since I've seen a "Naked Gun" flick. For that matter, "Airplane!" no longer seems to be on TV constantly. And where that original VHS tape is, I have no idea. But these are movies that are sewn into my pop culture DNA. There's a certain comfort in that.

What are your favorite Leslie Nielsen movie moments? Tell us in the comments.

My Chemical Romance Call Danger Days 'A Missile Directed At Rock And Roll'

'The best way to love rock and roll is to shoot it in the head,' band says.
By James Montgomery

My Chemical Romance
Photo: MTV News

In the four years between The Black Parade and Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys, My Chemical Romance were no strangers to the grandiose statement. It seems that, in every interview they gave, the band found a new way to describe their (then upcoming) album, calling it everything from a "very pure" bit of punk rock to — most famously — "a love letter to rock and roll".

The end result, of course, was Danger Days, an album that is both of those things (and neither), often at the same time. And yet, it has basically been defined within those parameters. So, looking back on it now, do MCR regret anything they said in the lead-up to the album?

Not really.

"It makes me laugh when I [read it now]," frontman Gerard Way said, smiling.

"Part of the problem was: We tried to define the record before we made the record. And it's not all our fault," guitarist Frank Iero added, "because everyone kept asking us, 'Oh, what's it going to be?' And when we said, 'Oh, we don't know,' they're like, 'Well, whadaya mean? What's it going to be? Can you speculate?' And it's like, 'Well, it's going to be this,' and when we found out what that is, it changed."

And that change was, of course, necessary. Both for the band's survival and the scope of the new album. In retrospect, MCR stand by everything they said about Danger Days, because, really, deep down in its chrome-plated heart, it still is "a love letter" to American rock and roll.

It's just written from My Chemical Romance's rather-unique perspective.

"At first, we said, 'It's a love letter to rock and roll,' and we found out that the best way to love rock and roll is to shoot it in the head," Iero said. "So we made a record that was like a missile directed at rock and roll.

"It just started to change and evolve, and then the band evolved at the same time. And I think that's the way you have to make a record: in a very organic way."

What do you think of Danger Days? Give us your review in the comments!

'Glee'-Cap: Celebrate The Birth Of 'Furt'

We're not sure what was up with that Carol Burnett storyline, but sing along anyway.
By Jim Cantiello, with additional reporting by Vaughn Trudeau Schoonmaker

Photo: FOX

This week's "Glee" episode, "Furt," featured not one, but two weddings — and not one, but two Bruno Mars songs. More important, it actually took the Kurt/bullying storyline somewhere. Celebrate with us and sing along!

Do you want a wedding episode?
I do! I do!
Do I want "Glee" in a happy mode?
I do! Do you
Know why I'm crying
When this show
Used to
Be funny and so shiny?
But now I feel sad
For tortured Kurt and lonely Sue
His bully's mad
Kurt doesn't know what he should do
But cheer up, dude!
Your bully's dad is from "Lost" so that means he's totally going to explode.

["Lost" clip of Arzt holding dynamite and exploding.] Anyone remember that from season one?

Do you believe the boys stood up for Kurt?
I do, I do
Except for Finn, who tried his best to avert.
So boo to
Him until the wedding scene where
We saw Finn
Dedicate a sweet song to his
New half-kin.
But why were the pronouns all messy,
She's a him?
I guess "Glee" won't change lyrics unless
It is about transsexuals.
That's right I'm still not over that "Rocky Horror" episode, you guys.

Just sayin'.

Sue Sylvester marries herself 'cause she can't find a match.
Mama Sue shows up but this plot point doesn't attach.
I guess producers had the chance to shoot with Carol Burnett,
So they wrote in a Nazi-hunter filled with maternal regret.

How can I blame them for wanting to include Carol?
Ryan Murphy clearly said, "Sure now, what the hell?"
A shame her singing voice now sounds a lot like her Tarzan yell
Is she coasting on her name?

[Clip of Carol emphatically saying, "I AM NOT!"] [Jim speaks] Sorry, no disrespect! [Tugs on his earlobe.]

[Singing]
Do you want to know how "Glee" ends up? I do! You do!
Sue expels the bully but the school board sucks,
So Sue
Resigns as principal in protest
Mr. Schue
Says regionals are coming next
But Kurt's to do
List includes dodging closet cases
Out to bruise
His porcelain skin with so much hate
He chooses to
Transfer to the private school that's basically paradise for gays.

Let's all praise!
This storyline is great! When's the last time I had such nice things to say about "Glee," you guys? Huzzah, Ryan Murphy.

'Twilight Saga: Eclipse' DVD -- Watch An Exclusive Clip Here!

We have a preview of the 'tent scene,' including hilarious commentary by Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart.
By Kara Warner

Taylor Lautner and Kristen Stewart in "Eclipse"
Photo: Summit Entertainment

All right Twilighters, have we got a Thanksgiving treat for you! While "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" DVD doesn't come out until December 4, MTV News is delighted to present an exclusive clip from the highly anticipated release — complete with commentary from Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart!

This isn't just any clip either. Summit has kindly bestowed upon us a juicy little snippet from the fan favorite "tent scene."

In this clip, fans get to see the heated exchange between Edward (Pattinson) and Jacob (Taylor Lautner) as they discuss how Jacob will have to get into a sleeping bag with Bella (Stewart) in order to keep her warm and save her from freezing to death. Edward, of course, is not at all pleased with Jacob getting anywhere near Bella, but he must concede for Bella's sake. Jacob, taking advantage of the situation, revels in the fact that his warmer-than-normal body temperature means he can do for Bella what Edward can't.

The scene itself offers plenty of entertainment, but it's Pattinson and Stewart's hilarious voiceover commentary about the scene that really sells it.

"Slurp your coffee a little bit more," we hear Stewart say to Pattinson. "That's what the fans want."

"It's not coffee," Pattinson responds. "It's an Arnold Palmer," he says, attempting to pronounce it with an American accent.

"You're drinking an Arnold Palmer?" Stewart asks, sounding amused. "Having a little lemonade and iced tea?"

Meanwhile, Jacob has just crawled into Bella's sleeping bag, which draws Stewart and Pattinson back to the clip.

"God, he's so gross, so brazen!" Pattinson says of Lautner's werewolf. "I really don't like Jacob."

"Aww," Stewart says.

"Look at him and his tattoo and stuff. Ugh," Pattinson mock scoffs.

"He's just young and overzealous," Stewart says defending the young wolf.

"He's not!" Pattinson insists. "He does it on purpose. He's looking at me when he's saying this stuff."

"Yeah, that is weird," Stewart agrees.

"What is wrong with him? He's like, 'I don't even care about her, I just want to,' " Pattinson trails off.

"Look at him cradling!" Stewart points out, which provokes a burst of laughter from Pattinson. "His little head nooked in there," she adds.

"You look like you're milking him," Pattinson says as both "Twilight" actors break out laughing.

A terrific tease, and if that little sneak peek doesn't make you want to pre-order that DVD now, we don't know what will.

What do you think about the clip? Stewart and Pattinson's commentary? Tell us in the comments!

Check out everything we've got on "Eclipse."

With winning turn in 'Easy A,' 'Spider-Man' casting and 'SNL' hosting gig, the 22-year-old has had quite a year.

As MTV News' Thankful Week draws to a close, we begin to cast our gaze away from the big screen and towards tables soon to be the scene of turkey-crazed feasts. But we have one last honor to bestow: the actress we're most thankful for in 2010.

The winner is none other than Emma Stone, a move that completes a nifty "Spider-Man" double win, as we also honored Andrew Garfield — who's stepping into the role of Peter Parker — as the actor we're most thankful for this year. Stone won the part of Gwen Stacy in October, capping a stellar year for the 22-year-old.

From the top-notch teenage rom-com "Easy A" to her "Saturday Night Live" hosting gig to the opportunity to shoot flicks opposite the likes of Steve Carell ("Crazy, Stupid, Love") and Justin Timberlake ("Friends With Benefits"), Stone was already having a great 2010. Then "Spider-Man" director Marc Webb came calling. Her life is never going to be the same — and she couldn't be more excited.

The always-energetic actress called up MTV News in the midst of "Spider-Man" preproduction to talk about what a surreal year it's been and how she's dealing with the pressures of taking on the iconic Marvel series.

MTV: Thanks for calling up to chat.

Emma Stone: Thank you for having me!

MTV: Well, you're going to be very excited in a second.

Stone: What is it? What's it going to be? You like how I'm excited at the mere mention that I'm going to be excited?

MTV: Uh-oh, I really have to come through now. Look out your window — there's a blimp with your face on it!

Stone: Oh my god, it's so beautiful, I'm looking right now! You wanna know what's really insane about that? I actually pulled back the curtain and looked at the sky.

MTV: I'm sorry to disappoint, but I can tell you that every year we honor various people we're thankful for, and this year you're the woman we're most thankful for.

Stone: Oh my god, shut up! Get out of here! I prepared a 10-minute speech, is that OK?

MTV: I'm afraid we don't have enough time. You know, the man we're most thankful for this year is your "Spider-Man" co-star Andrew Garfield.

Stone: Hey, I know that guy! We've met. He's the worst!

MTV: I won't tell him you said that. It has been quite a year for you. "Easy A" gets a great reaction, you're shooting movies with people like Justin Timberlake and Ryan Gosling, you host "Saturday Night Live," and then you land "Spider-Man." Does 2010 feel like a landmark year?

Stone: It feels kind of scary saying this because that means it's only downhill, but it's been the best year of my life. Not just with how lucky I've been work-wise, but with my family and friends. I'm totally terrified for 2011. I have such a disaster mentality, it's not even funny.

MTV: Which raises the question, are you ready for something as big as "Spider-Man"? Can you ever be ready for something like that?

Stone: The way I have to approach it, and I think Andrew would agree, is just like any other movie. You're going to put the same amount of focus into this that you would with anything. It just happens to be an exponentially bigger budget. So there's that. It'll probably feel different when we start to do press, but we won't have to deal with that for another year and a half. And there are harnesses I'm going to have to use in this one. That's the only difference: just the harnesses.

MTV: Seriously, though, it's been quite a year for you with onscreen love interests. The women in the office are jealous — Penn Badgley, Timberlake, Gosling, Garfield. You're a lucky woman ...

Stone: What can I say? You cannot compare them. They are so wonderful in their own ways. Again, it's been an amazing year.

MTV: Has there been one surreal point in particular that kind of encapsulates 2010 for you?

Stone: Hosting "Saturday Night Live." That's always been my ultimate dream. That moment before you come out those doors when Don Pardo says your name and you're standing there ... I had never let myself imagine what that would feel like. That moment when you walk through those doors was probably the most surreal moment, not just of this year, but ever.

MTV: So you guys are in rehearsals for "Spider-Man," right? What is that process like at this point?

Stone: Today I went and did hair tests, because I have blonde hair now since Gwen has blonde hair. My natural hair is blonde, so it's kind of nice. I looked in the mirror and said, "Oh my god, it's me again, it's been so long!" We're finalizing the visual stuff. And I think we'll start actually rehearsing, because we start shooting in two weeks. Andrew and I went and learned about science yesterday. Gwen really likes science, so we learned about science. I was homeschooled, so I never went to chemistry class in a traditional setting like Gwen is into. That was really beneficial.

MTV: There seemed to be so much competition for the role of Gwen Stacy. Do you ever think, "Why me?" What do you think won you the part?

Stone: I ask myself that question every day. I have no f---ing idea. It's the most amazing idea, I can't even tell you. I don't think I ever will figure out how it happened. It's been mind-blowing. I know things will eventually change, so I'm just trying to avoid thinking about it and just enjoy it while it's happening. Ugh, what am I even saying? Don't write any of that down!

Thanksgiving is a time for taking stock, expressing gratitude and, most importantly, overeating. We at MTV News have been gorging all year at movie theaters, so it's about time we looked back and gave thanks to our favorite actors and filmmakers of 2010. Enjoy exclusive interviews with our winners all week long.

Check out everything we've got on "Spider-Man."

The Situation Hopes To Go From 'Jersey Shore' To Big Screen

'I would have to say that I'm looking forward to possibly doing a movie or so,' he hints to MTV News at the American Music Awards.
By Gil Kaufman, with reporting by Tim Kash

He's got his own clothing line, a book, a couple of moneymaking trademark phrases, a hilarious abstinence commercial with Bristol Palin, a hit TV show, a couple mill in the bank and, of course, those abs. But what "Jersey Shore" breakout star Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino really wants to do is ... act.

MTV News caught up with the former underwear model on the red carpet at Sunday night's American Music Awards, where the Sitch told us he's got his eye on jumping to the big screen.

"In the upcoming year, I would have to say that I'm looking forward to possibly doing a movie or so," Sorrentino said. Asked what kind or roles he's coveting, the onetime "Dancing With the Stars" contestant teased, "I want to surprise everybody. They might be coming to something soon."

While an action movie would seem to be the way to go for the buff GTL fanatic, Sitch was cagey on that angle, saying it could be a shoot-'em-up situation — or something entirely different. "It could be something in the middle. I don't know. ... Hopefully it works out. Other than that, there could be also some reality in the future as well. I'm right in between, I don't know. I'm like in college right now, about to graduate. I don't know what's going on. Maybe I'll stay another year, maybe I'll graduate, I don't know."

In the meantime, he's focused on hawking his book, "Here's the Situation: A Guide to Creeping on Chicks, Avoiding Grenades, and Getting in Your GTL on the Jersey Shore," and he recently told MTV News that the sky's the limit for him.

"I've realized what I want to do in life in that I just love being in front of the camera," he said. "I love being an entertainer. It's almost been a lifelong journey to find out what I wanted to do. I'm so happy to be here, and everything's been going great."

What kind of movie would you like to see the Situation in? Share your thoughts in the comments!

Nicki Minaj Vents About Being A Female MC In 'My Time Now' Preview

Documentary premieres Sunday at 10 p.m. ET/PT on MTV.
By Mawuse Ziegbe

If there's one thing Nicki Minaj does not do in her MTV documentary "My Time Now," it's hold back.

The Pink Friday MC has skyrocketed to the upper echelons of the hip-hop game with a flow that swings from beastly to baby-voiced and a boldly wacky-yet-vampy persona. In the doc, the pink-wigged spitter reveals that her growing success is not just the result of her stacks of scene-stealing features, but also her insistence on being regarded as a musical force to be reckoned with.

"I put quality in what I do. I spend time and I spend energy and I spend effort and I spend everything I have, every fiber of my being, to give people quality," Minaj says in a teaser clip from the forthcoming film, hanging out in a semi-casual outfit, sporting a pale-blue T-shirt and towering Pepto-Bismol-hued wig. "So if I turn up to a photo shoot and you got a $50 clothes budget and some sliced pickles on a mother----in' board, you know what? No. I am gonna leave.

"Is that wrong? For wanting more for myself, wanting people to treat me with respect?" she continues. "But you know what? Next time, they know better. But had I accepted the pickle juice, I would be drinking pickle juice right now."

Minaj also analyzes the double standards she says plague the entertainment industry, explaining that a confident behind-the-scenes manner will often land women unfavorable and dismissive labels.

"When I am assertive, I'm a bitch. When a man is assertive, he's a boss. He bossed up. No negative connotation behind 'bossed up.' But lots of negative connotation behind being a bitch. Donald Trump can say, 'You're fired.' Let Martha Stewart run her company the same way and be the same way. [People will say] 'F---ing old evil bitch!' But Donald Trump, he gets to hang out with young bitches and have 50 different wives and just be cool. 'Oh, Donald, we love you, Donald Trump!' " Minaj quips theatrically.

The "Roman's Revenge" spitter further maintains that, to make it as a superstar, aspiring female artists are expected to juggle a superhuman amount of multitasking.

"When you're a girl, you have to be everything. You have to be dope at what you do but you have to be super sweet and you have to be sexy and you have to be this, you have to be that, and you have to be nice," she says. "It's like, 'I can't be all those things at once. I'm a human being.' "

The soliloquy is another moment in which the MC candidly provides insight, not only into her experience as a lyricist careening toward fame, but her personal views and perspectives as well. In addition to trailing the lyricist as she lays down her debut album, cameras follow the hitmaker on an emotional visit to her native Trinidad and catch Minaj as she opens up about her late grandmother.

"They're gonna meet Onika," she recently told MTV News about the doc. "Everybody sees Nicki Minaj; they're gonna meet Onika. They're gonna hear my story, and it's such an inspirational story, which I never really wanted to tell. 'Cause everyone always feels like you don't want people to know too much. But when I saw what [MTV and production company @radical.media] did, I thought, 'People need to see this.' It reminds you that everyone always feels like this is it, but there's always a light at the end of the tunnel, and I feel like that's what the doc says at the end."

Don't miss the documentary "Nicki Minaj: My Time Now," premiering Sunday at 10 p.m. ET/PT on MTV!

Justin Bieber Answers YOUR Questions!

It was anything but a Black Friday for residents of New York City yesterday.

'Glee'-Cap: Celebrate The Birth Of 'Furt'

We're not sure what was up with that Carol Burnett storyline, but sing along anyway.
By Jim Cantiello, with additional reporting by Vaughn Trudeau Schoonmaker

Chris Colfer and Cory Monteith in the "Furt" episode of "Glee"
Photo: FOX

This week's "Glee" episode, "Furt," featured not one, but two weddings — and not one, but two Bruno Mars songs. More important, it actually took the Kurt/bullying storyline somewhere. Celebrate with us and sing along!

Do you want a wedding episode?
I do! I do!
Do I want "Glee" in a happy mode?
I do! Do you
Know why I'm crying
When this show
Used to
Be funny and so shiny?
But now I feel sad
For tortured Kurt and lonely Sue
His bully's mad
Kurt doesn't know what he should do
But cheer up, dude!
Your bully's dad is from "Lost" so that means he's totally going to explode.

["Lost" clip of Arzt holding dynamite and exploding.] Anyone remember that from season one?

Do you believe the boys stood up for Kurt?
I do, I do
Except for Finn, who tried his best to avert.
So boo to
Him until the wedding scene where
We saw Finn
Dedicate a sweet song to his
New half-kin.
But why were the pronouns all messy,
She's a him?
I guess "Glee" won't change lyrics unless
It is about transsexuals.
That's right I'm still not over that "Rocky Horror" episode, you guys.

Just sayin'.

Sue Sylvester marries herself 'cause she can't find a match.
Mama Sue shows up but this plot point doesn't attach.
I guess producers had the chance to shoot with Carol Burnett,
So they wrote in a Nazi-hunter filled with maternal regret.

How can I blame them for wanting to include Carol?
Ryan Murphy clearly said, "Sure now, what the hell?"
A shame her singing voice now sounds a lot like her Tarzan yell
Is she coasting on her name?

[Clip of Carol emphatically saying, "I AM NOT!"] [Jim speaks] Sorry, no disrespect! [Tugs on his earlobe.]

[Singing]
Do you want to know how "Glee" ends up? I do! You do!
Sue expels the bully but the school board sucks,
So Sue
Resigns as principal in protest
Mr. Schue
Says regionals are coming next
But Kurt's to do
List includes dodging closet cases
Out to bruise
His porcelain skin with so much hate
He chooses to
Transfer to the private school that's basically paradise for gays.

Let's all praise!
This storyline is great! When's the last time I had such nice things to say about "Glee," you guys? Huzzah, Ryan Murphy.

What did you think of this week's "Glee"? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

Kanye West Sounds Off On Media At NYC Show

After performance celebrating the release of his new album, 'Ye turns defiant.
By James Dinh

Judging by the critical response to his new album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, Kanye West's love/hate relationship with the media has had little impact on how they view his music. But while concluding his secret New York concert on Tuesday night, the hip-hop heavyweight spoke out on his public image.

After the encore of his Bowery Ballroom set, West reflected on the his career. "As you know, it's been an extremely hard year for me," he said. "But getting back to music, G.O.O.D. Fridays, and the album ... I never thought I'd say this, I wanna thank the magazines for perfect scores across the board. I always felt like I could do anything, but now I feel so fearless. To do an album after the year that I had and after all the 'Your career is over,' 'Die, n---a, die,' and 'You'll never make music again,' and to come back and do 100,000 the first day, digital alone, to be slated to do 600,000 in the first week. I don't talk about the numbers but what that number says is that people want me to keep making music and for me to not give up."

The Chicago MC then brought up his contentious "Today" show appearance earlier this month. "But I ain't here to make no mother----ing politics," 'Ye said. "I'm here to make music. I'm not here to talk in no mother----ing interviews, nobody ask me no stupid-ass questions. We have such a great win. Matt Lauer is not a bad guy, I'm sure."

Soon after, West went on to another tricky subject, the Taylor Swift VMA incident. "When you do things like what happened last year, it's disrespectful for everyone that's created," he said to roaring applause. "It's a smack in the face to everyone who tries to do something real. If I wasn't drunk, I would have been onstage longer. Am I the only one who's not crazy here?"

Yeezy went on to speak about former President George W. Bush and why he said Bush didn't "care about black people" in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

"Everyone wants to use people and villianize people, even if you take the concept like George Bush," he said. "There is no leader in history that has been a villain in that way that didn't get killed in war or commit suicide, so any man that lives through it, deserves one moment of redemption. Any man! ... Everyone needs a villain, don't we? We need to blame someone at all times. For me to be considered a racist for stating the blatant truth, an obvious truth ... But the nuisances of my words, because I am very particular with my words, and they're an emotion I felt at that time. It wasn't worded exactly right, but everybody came and said ... 'Oh my God, Kanye, I love you so much. I hated you until you said that. Yeah, now you're speaking for me, but now you said something that represents me.' "

Kanye says his Bush callout was misinterpreted, but he rode the media's wave. "And the whole time, I'm thinking in my mind, that's not exactly what I wanted to say, I was emotional. That was not exactly how I wanted to word it. But I rode it. I rode it. Just as Taylor never came to my defense in any interview and rode the wave and rode it and rode it. That's the way that I rode the wave with the Bush comment. It's not about popular opinion."

After experiencing similar backlash from the media, West said he empathized with Bush over the twisting influence of the media, echoing what he'd said during the interview with Matt Lauer.

With another mention of how the "Today" show "f---ed up big time" for playing the VMA incident during his interview, Kanye said that he appreciates and thanks all those that helped him for the better and worse throughout the past year.

"If you're a real artist, have no fear, say what the f--- you want, do what you want and make what you want," he said. "And if it's meant to be, then people will stand up like the people stood up with 600,000 coming off being the most hated person this time last year. ... And on that note, I love you and on my family that came to help me with the album, that came through tonight, flying in on private jets, everything they had to do to get here, everybody in this audience that sat through this whole thing, I know you got to wake up in the morning. Thank you so much. I love you."

What do you think of Kanye's speech? Sound off below!

After 'Deathly Hallows - Part 1,' What's Next For Emma Watson?

'Harry Potter' actress' career is taking a backseat to her college education for now.
By Eric Ditzian

Emma Watson
Photo: MTV News

In the summer of 2009, Emma Watson confessed to MTV News that she wasn't sure whether, after working on the "Harry Potter" franchise for a decade, she might take an extended holiday from Hollywood and concentrate on her studies.

"I'm reading a lot of scripts and talking to casting agents and if something comes up in the right time then I [would consider it]," she said. "If it was something I really wanted to do, then I wouldn't say no. But at the same time I've been working solidly since I was like 10 ... so I'm going to take a bit of a break."

The 20-year-old actress has largely stuck to that take-a-step-back ethos. While she has a few film roles lined up, they carry a fraction of the profile that "Potter" does. Instead, she's plowing forward at Brown University and expanding her fashion work. Here's what we can expect next from Watson.

"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2"
"Deathly Hallows - Part 1" notched an impressive debut at the box office this weekend — $125 million, good for #6 on the all-time list of opening weekends. But "Part 2" will likely blow that total away. Why? Warner Bros. is still planning to convert the flick for a 3-D release. Those premium ticket prices should goose the opening ever higher. Which means that despite the low profile Watson will keep until then, come next summer she'll once again be recognized as Hollywood royalty.

"My Week With Marilyn"
No, Watson is not set to play iconic blonde bombshell Marilyn Monroe. That honor goes to Michelle Williams. Watson took on a small role as a wardrobe assistant for this film, which follows the just-married Monroe on a tour around Britain with an assistant director on "The Prince and the Showgirl," a film she shoots after getting hitched to playwright Arthur Miller.

People Tree
Earlier this year, Watson made her status as a fashion icon official when she collaborated with People Tree, a Fair Trade fashion label, for a line of eco-friendly duds. Now she's got a second collection of pinafore dresses, cotton cardigans and striped tees. "I still find it hard to convey what Fair Trade means to those producing our fashion — it's just so impressive to see how the women have used Fair Trade clothing to escape poverty and empower themselves and their children," she says on the People Tree website.

"The Perks of Being a Wallflower"
Watson's next starring role could be in this adaptation of a 1999 novel about a lonely teenage boy named Charlie, who deals with issues of familial strife, drug use, sexuality and suicide. Logan Lerman ("Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief") would play Charlie, opposite Watson as his love interest Sam.

Brown University
All of these projects, however, currently take a backseat to Watson's Ivy League studies. As she told us recently, she almost quit the "Potter" franchise, lest she lose a chance to pursue her higher education. "I always try and make decisions in my life based on what's right for me and I just try and be true to myself," she said. "It was mainly to do with scheduling and I had a real fight on my hands to ensure that I was able to go to university and I was able to sit my A-levels, because the schedule they handed to me didn't really allow for any of that and I just wasn't prepared to let it go."

Check out everything we've got on "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1."

We rarely see the soft side of Cash Money CEO Birdman, but MTV News caught up with the 5-Star General in his hometown of New Orleans on Tuesday afternoon for his 15th annual turkey giveaway. The event was in Shakespeare Park, across the street from the housing projects Birdman, born Bryan Williams, grew up in. He said he was very happy to be home.

"It feels good to see people that you grew up with, that you've been knowing your whole life and your family," Birdman said. "[They] know more about you than you know about yourself."

He said the drive means a lot to those in the community, not just because of the giveaway, but also because the town is thrilled just to see Birdman and the rest of the Cash Money family.

"They see us on TV so much, but never get to see us [in person]. But for them to see us, shake our hands, tell us they know our momma, they know our daddy, so many that watched me as a kid that tried to keep my head straight when I was younger — it feels great, not just good."

Birdman said Cash Money have been giving away turkeys for 15 years, but every year, it gets more exciting. He said that when they started, it was just to help out those that didn't have anything for Thanksgiving.

"We caught ourselves trying to help the neighborhood, the older folks who didn't have anything," he recalled. "Now it's a different trade for me to come home and get [a reception] like this. It still means the world to me."

What are your Thanksgiving plans? Let us know in the comments!
