Scotty McCreery's 'American Idol' Win: Experts Weigh In

'It was hard to derail that Scotty train,' TVLine.com's Michael Slezak tells MTV News.
By Gil Kaufman

Like much of America, TVLine.com "Idol" recapper Michael Slezak was none too surprised that Scotty McCreery took home the "American Idol" crown on Wednesday night.

"Scotty has looked like the winner of 'Idol' for the last six or seven weeks," Slezak said. "It was a strange season, because not since season five has the race been this wide open."

Once the season 10 competition got down to the final four, Slezak said it felt like it could have been anyone's game, with James Durbin, Haley Reinhart or Lauren Alaina snatching the title from McCreery if they had put up that one magical performance. "If one of them had blown the doors off in the last few weeks, there was a chance to beat Scotty," he said. "But conventional wisdom won out. He was just so consistent and charming week in and out. It was hard to derail that Scotty train."

As for whether the fourth male champion in a row is a good thing for "Idol" considering the diminishing returns that began with season-seven winner David Cook's respectable debut, followed by Kris Allen's less-impressive numbers and Lee DeWyze's outright bomb, Slezak said 17-year-old McCreery is actually right in the pocket for what is going on in music now.

"Youth is where it's at in the music scene," he said. "Whether you like it or not, radio and media continue to gravitate toward younger and younger artists — Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift — so it won't hurt him being young."

And while that theory would suggest that a 16-year-old Lauren Alaina would have been an even better choice given the success of tweens like Willow Smith, Slezak said Scotty was a better bet because of his maturity and self-assurance, something Alaina hasn't quite fully developed.

"He also just seems like a nice kid when you watch him completely break down in tears during his hometown visit and again last night," Slezak said. "It humanized him. He's not a machine-like boy who picks off notes with robotic perfection."

"Idol" blogger MJ Santilli said the combination of maturity and confidence should help McCreery put together a solid debut, especially in light of how consistently he stuck with his signature sound on the show.

"Scotty seems to know, even at a young age, what kind of artist he is," Santilli said. "And he seems to be a real traditionalist when it comes to country music. I would expect more of an old-school vibe from Scotty when he finally releases an album — but with a contemporary twist. His people will need to help him develop his own sound. There were too many comparisons to other singers, like Josh Turner, during Scotty's run on the show. Now it's time for the young 'Idol' winner to define himself apart from the country pack."

Slezak agreed, predicting that McCreery will do very well in his post-"Idol" career and possibly break the chain of lackluster returns from his male predecessors. In a year that saw the departure of lead judge Simon Cowell and uncertainty about how new judges Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez would fit in, the franchise needed a huge winner this year, and McCreery seems like the likeliest one to have a big splash when he releases his debut later this year.

"Haley was more of a wild card, but you know what Scotty will do, and the music industry loves to put people in a box," Slezak said. "If they get good songs — and with the team [Interscope boss Jimmy Iovine] has lined up, I can't see how they wouldn't — he should do fine."

'Hangover Part II' Stars Promise 'A Lot More Comedy' In Sequel

'It was just utter excitement to play these characters again,' Bradley Cooper tells MTV News.
By Kara Warner

Given the incredible box-office success of 2009's mega-hit comedy "The Hangover," it seemed as though a future installment of the outlandish antics of "Wolf Pack" members Alan, Stu and Phil would be inevitable. Which brings us to "The Hangover Part II," which is opening in theaters this weekend.

MTV News caught up with the men behind the magic recently, actors Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis, who not only explained Cooper's head-shaving skills, but also revealed that the main castmembers were originally hesitant to venture into sequel territory.

"I think it was more excitement once we got the second script, which was really wonderful — actually stronger than the first one," Cooper said of getting the gang back together again. "It was just utter excitement to play these characters again and hopefully deliver a movie where fans will be excited to see what happened. We get to see where Alan lives, we get to see Stu progress to two years, Phil as well, so I think it was just exciting to hopefully provide a lot more comedy for people who liked the first one."

Helms has also said that there was some hesitancy to try and make lightning strike twice in a second film.

"We had no idea that 'The Hangover' would do what it did, so we were all kind of blown away," Helms told us at a New York screening of the film. "But then very quickly a conversation for a sequel started, and we were all kind of like, 'I don't know.' And then Todd showed us the script, and it was amazing, so we were like, 'Yeah, let's do that.' "

Regarding what audiences can expect from "Hangover Part II," Helms said to expect a bit more of the same.

"[It's] disturbing, horrifying, unnerving," he said. "Oh, and also hilarious. I forgot that ... Lots of craziness happened on set, and you'll see all of that in the movie."

Check out everything we've got on "The Hangover Part II."

Bristol Palin and Kyle Massey Reportedly Dating; Sarah Palin "Furious" Over Relationship

Sarah Palin may have be relocating to Arizona to set up a hub from which to run for president next year ... and/or to keep tabs on her daughter.

The politician is reportedly furious at the fact that Bristol Palin and Kyle Massey, who met on Dancing with the Stars last year, are in a relationship.

Bristol and Kyle are set to appear in a reality show on the BIO Channel, chronicling their efforts to set up a charity alongside Kyle's brother, Chris.

Bristol Palin SmilesK-Massey

Reports say the couple's growing relationship sparked the idea for the show - and to say Sarah Palin isn't pleased would be an understatement.

She is convinced it will affect her family's reputation, as Bristol is on the rebound from her ex-boyfriend, Alaskan pipeline worker Gino Paoletti.

Before that, she had volatile relationship (and baby) with Levi Johnston.

A source said: "Sarah is furious at Bristol for going so quickly from man to man" and is doing her best to put the kibosh on the relationship.

That meddling has put a frown on Bristol Palin's new face.

An insider said: "Bristol told Sarah: 'Back off and let me lead my own life!' She doesn't agree with her mom's politics or her controlling ways."

This feud has apparently been escalating for awhile. Bristol reportedly banned her mother from her new home in Arizona after a huge fight.

The topic? Gay marriage. Bristol has become increasingly liberal since she moved to Los Angeles to appear on Dancing with the Stars last year.

"Bristol is completely rebelling against her mother," a source said. "She's experiencing life outside of Alaska and away from Sarah at last."

"She has realized how sheltered and programmed she was."

As for the seriousness of Bristol Palin and Kyle Massey's relationship, it's somewhat unclear, as they've been quite guarded about it publicly.

Kyle told a reporter he only keeps in touch with Bristol "every now and then" as the couple are trying to keep their burgeoning romance secret.

Scotty McCreery's Hometown Enjoys Spotlight

Garner, North Carolina, rallies behind 'American Idol' season 10 finalist.
By Gil Kaufman

Like Lauren Alaina, Scotty McCreery had been plugging away for years before getting his big break on "American Idol." Both of the teenage season 10 "Idol" finalists had charmed friends, neighbors and local townspeople with their precocious talent since they were old enough to hold a microphone.

The favorite to win it all, McCreery hails from the small town of Garner, North Carolina (population 27,000), and when he wasn't singing in his school's vocal ensemble or amassing a 10-1 pitching record for the Garner Magnet High School team during his starts on JV and as a junior, McCreery was busy winning local singing competitions like last summer's "Clayton Idol."

WQDR DJ Janie Carothers first heard of Scotty after he'd won "Clayton Idol," and the hometown morning show personality said the first time she heard him sing, she could tell he was something special. McCreery participated in the QDR "hometown tour" last summer, an annual event in McDonald's parking lots to raise money for the North Carolina Children's Hospital.

"It's a big deal, and when we went to Garner, we heard about this kid Scotty who wanted to sing in the parking lot," Carothers said. "He sang 'Ol' Red' by Blake Shelton and 'Your Man' by Josh Turner in a McDonald's parking lot before he went to school that day and you could just tell."

Nearly a year later, Garner has become ground zero for the McCreery phenomenon, with the entire town buzzing with excitement on performance and elimination days.

On "Idol" performance Wednesdays, QDR becomes "Scotty 94.7" to help rally the local population, which Carothers said has gone crazy for their hometown hero. "I honestly don't think he has a clue how big he's gotten," she said. "I think when people think of the South, they have certain judgments, and one of the things we're known for is our hospitality and our ability to rally together, and Garner has proven that. You walk down the streets and you can see people with stuff written on the back of cars, on storefronts, there's banners ... everyone is supporting him."

It also helps, she added, that Scotty is a good ol' country boy and all-American kid who plays baseball, sings in the praise choir in church and is just known as a sweet kid. He further enhanced his Southern gentleman cred last week when he won the coin toss for performance order in the finale and deferred to rival Lauren.

That squeaky-clean reputation is one of the reasons screen-printing business owner Paulette Disbrow turned her PKD printing shop into a virtual Scotty McCreery campaign headquarters over the past few months. With more than 1,000 people cramming into Garner Historic Auditorium every week for the past two months to cheer Scotty on, Disbrow has been supplying them with T-shirts, yard signs and buttons to help spread the word and keep the votes coming.

In keeping with Scotty's reputation as a good kid, all the money that comes in after expenses on all of Disbrow's items is going to charities of the singer's choice, including the youth mission group at his church, uniforms for his high school baseball team and cash for his high school chorus.

"He is exactly as he appears on TV," she said of the humble singer. "There's not a pretentious bone in his body. I was talking to him and his family when I did the original T-shirt design and I said, 'Do you understand where this could go and what happens if you get into the top five? You could go from being a hometown Garner boy to being famous.' And he was like, 'Aw shucks.' "

And Disbrow knows what she's talking about, since she printed the T-shirts for former "Idol" runner-up Clay Aiken when the nearby Raleigh, North Carolina, native made his run on season two.

Garner Mayor Ronnie Williams has joined the weekly viewing parties, which have swelled from a few dozen supporters to more than 2,000 over the past two months, and he's seen the town come together in a major way to support Scotty. "The majority of people here don't know him, but they know about him, and he's caused a bright spotlight to be on Garner, and ultimately he'll see it when he returns," Williams said.

He pointed to another small-town North Carolina "Idol" finalist, season five sixth-place finisher Kellie Pickler, whose hometown still sees traffic from fans who want to see the school or church she went to. "People will come looking for something to touch and feel to get a bit of Scotty McCreery, and in the process, they will stop and get a meal or a tank of gas, and in that regard, Scotty has helped contribute to the success of our local businesses."

In fact, Williams has already dubbed McCreery the "unofficial economic development coordinator" for the town while noting that the attention the singer has brought to the town of 27,000 is the most they've seen since the local high school won the state championship in 1987.

And the best part? "You can dig all day long and find no dirt on him," Williams said proudly, pointing out that the tabloids have descended looking for dish and left empty-handed. "He's a good Christian boy, who is talented and polite and energetic. We're proud of Scotty and proud of our town."

Don't miss a special edition of "Idol Party Live" Thursday at noon on MTV.com for analysis, finale red-carpet coverage and the last "Idol in 60 Seconds" of season 10. 'Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides': Everything You Need To Know

Johnny Depp and Penélope Cruz star in franchise's latest, out Friday.
By Eric Ditzian

Taking a bit of an exception with the adage about not fixing something that ain't broke, Disney shipped off from 2007's "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" — a film that grossed over $960 million worldwide — and decided to change things up. Out went director Gore Verbinski and stars Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley, and in came new helmer Rob Marshall and stars Penélope Cruz and Ian McShane for "On Stranger Tides," which hit theaters Friday (May 20).

But maybe all was not well in "Pirates" land. Though "World's End," the third film in the franchise, made boatloads of cash, it was an overly long affair with a confusing plot that lost sight of the popcorn pleasures that made the series such a hit when it launched in 2003. A reworking, it seemed, was just what Johnny Depp's Jack Sparrow and his pirate pals needed.

Headed into opening weekend, the changes appear to have worked. Box-office prognosticators are eyeing a debut in the $100 million range, and possibly higher, as 3-D ticket prices and, Disney hopes, positive word of mouth drive ticket sales. Before you stand in line to purchase your own, check out everything there is to know about "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides."

Readying the Ship
In September 2008, well over a year after "World's End" opened, Depp officially signed on to what was then simply called the fourth "Pirates of the Caribbean." By that point, Knightley had long been signaling she wouldn't return for the next adventure. But it wasn't until the following April that Verbinski declared his intention to depart the franchise.

Taking his place, it turned out, was Marshall, who'd previously helmed the Oscar-winning musical "Chicago," among other projects. And then, just like that, the flick got its official "On Stranger Tides" title.

"I think [Disney is] probably looking for a fresh approach," Marshall told us in the fall of '09. "I think it's good when you're doing these series' of films, like 'Harry Potter.' It's nice to bring in a fresh approach."

Speaking of freshness, Cruz entered talks the next February to join up as Sparrow's love interest, and McShane soon followed as the villain Blackbeard.

"We have a new villain, Blackbeard, who's the nastiest pirate ever. That's Ian McShane," producer Jerry Bruckheimer told us. "And a little romance between Captain Jack and the character Penelope plays. There's a lot of humor; she brings a lot of humor to it. And the fact that she's so feisty. She plays the daughter of Blackbeard."

Setting Sail
With the cast and the decision to shoot in 3-D in place, filming kicked off early in summer 2010. Shortly thereafter, we got our first, teasing peek at Depp in character. And just after production wrapped up in the fall, the first poster popped up online.

The first trailer arrived in December, showing us the new characters, a welcome look at Keith Richards reprising his role as Jack's dad, and a whole lot of fiery action. The more things changed, thankfully, the more they stayed the same. A second trailer dove more into the film's plot, with glimpses of mermaids, zombies and the epic quest for the fountain of youth that forms the main storyline.

Coming into Port
Yes, the search for the life-bestowing fountain is the driving force in "On Stranger Tides," but the film also makes room for some romance with Cruz's Angelica — albeit romance that is never consummated.

"I think, if we did a scenario where it was Captain Jack really falling in love, it would most likely be a silent film. I think he would go completely catatonic and be unable to speak," Depp told us. "He would probably sit there and quiver for an hour and a half."

While they never get a chance to act on their long-simmering feelings for each other, they do get to spar, verbally and with swords — and always with their clothes on. "You need someone like Penélope, who's an Academy Award winner, to go up against Johnny Depp, because if they're not as good as she is, you can see it right away," Bruckheimer said. "You can't spar with Johnny unless you're brilliant."

Hines Ward Wins 'Dancing With The Stars'

Kirstie Alley nabs the runner-up spot, as Chelsea Kane rounds out the top three.

Kym Johnson and Hines Ward win "Dancing With The Stars"
Photo: ABC

The dancing was top-notch and the competition was intense, but there could be only one winner as the latest season of "Dancing With the Stars" came to a close Tuesday night (May 24). After the rest of the season's contestants and a string of musical guests, it was Hines Ward who received the series' coveted mirror-ball trophy alongside partner Kym Johnson.

"You know, starting this competition, I never thought I'd be in the finals," the NFL champion told host Tom Bergeron. "But I owe it all to Kym. She's an amazing teacher, and I want to thank the judges for giving us the constructive criticism to help me get better each week. Also, I want to thank all the fans."

Before Hines was announced as the champ, the last couples duked it out in the competition's final dance round, where all three celebrity contestants wowed the judges. Kane performed the waltz (30/30 =), Alley grooved to the cha-cha (30/30) and Hines danced the samba (30/30).

Ward's victory wasn't the only highlight during the finale. Mike "Psycho Mike" Catherwood, the season's first castoff, taped a skit of himself trying out for different dance troupes before showing off his new and improved moves on the dance floor. Petra Nemcova offered fans a flashback when she danced the waltz to a live rendition of "You Raise Me Up" from special guest Josh Groban. Kendra Wilkinson played up her Playmate persona by dancing in a shimmery yellow ensemble with a foursome of dance partners. Unfortunately, her attempt to dazzle the audience nearly fell flat when the reality starlet almost slid the judge's table, only to have her partner act fast and catch her.

Some celebs in the audience included "Dancing With the Stars" alumni Aaron Carter and Brandy. The show brought out even more star power throughout the night when the Black Eyed Peas, the Go-Go's and Sara Evans took over the stage to perform eye-catching numbers. With a glow-in-the-dark stage setup (and accompany robot gear), BEP brought the audience to their feet with new single "Don't Stop the Party." While the Go-Go's celebrated the 30th anniversary of their debut album, Beauty and the Beat, by performing their hit "We Got the Beat," former "Dancing With the Stars" contestant Evans was on hand to perform her song "A Little Bit Stronger."

Did Hines deserve to win? Let us know in the comments!

Tom Felton Feels 'No Competition' With Dan Radcliffe For 2012 Ghost Movies

'I'm really excited for them both,' Felton says of his 'Apparition' and 'Harry Potter' co-star's 'Woman in Black.'
By Eric Ditzian

Tom Felton's "Apparition" was originally slated for a fall 2011 release, but Warner Bros. shifted the debut back to 2012, lining up a bit of a box-office face-off between Felton and his "Harry Potter" pal Daniel Radcliffe.

That's because both actors will have ghost-centric supernatural tales coming out next year. "The Apparition," co-starring Ashley Greene and Sebastian Stan, focuses on a haunting presence conjured up during a college parapsychology experiment. Radcliffe's "Woman in Black," meanwhile, is a dark period piece in which a scorned woman's ghost begins to haunt a small town.

But just because the two friends will have competing supernatural projects opening at the box office in 2012 doesn't mean they'll be competing with each other.

"No competition!" Felton laughed in an MTV News interview. "That's true, they're coming out next year. That could be interesting to see how that turns out. But I'm really excited for them both."

So too, it seems, is Radcliffe, who has already shared footage with Felton. "He actually showed me a trailer on his computer a while ago," Felton said. "It looks awesome. There's lots to look forward to. He's very excited."

Of "Apparition," which Felton previously told us was nothing short of a "dream role," the 23-year-old said, "It was so great for that film to be one of my first outside Hogwarts. Ashley and Sebastian are so talented. I learned so much from them, even though I was shooting for only six weeks. I'm very excited for that."

Check out everything we've got on "The Apparition" and "The Woman in Black."

Diddy Is A 'Hands-Off' Record Label Boss, Gorilla Zoe Says

Atlanta MC talks to MTV News about his June 14 Bad Boy release, King Kong, which features Gucci Mane, T-Pain, more.
By Rob Markman

Gorilla Zoe
Photo: MTV News

When someone mentions Bad Boy Records, you think of Sean "Diddy" Combs. The label CEO and chief producer has made his presence known on almost all of his label's releases, whether he's contributing beats, lyrics or his over-the-top ad-libs ("thought I told ya that we won't stop" or "take that, take that"). So when MTV News asked Gorilla Zoe about Diddy's involvement in his upcoming Bad Boy release, King Kong, we were surprised to hear the mogul was falling back.

"He's hands-off right now," the Hood Figga told us. "I'm hands-on this project, I'm working."

The album — set to drop June 14 on Block Ent./ Bad Boy — is Zoe's third solo affair. Although he came in the game as a part of the unapologetically street rap quartet Boyz N Da Hood, Zoe began to branch out with his 2009 single "Lost." Rather than weave his usual trap tales, on "Lost," Zoe sang in Auto-Tune of his deep-rooted paranoia and questioned his place in the world.

On King Kong, GZ says he's exhibiting even more growth. "King Kong, immaculate album. Sonically, the diversity and the demographics of it is widespread; anywhere from the hood, the trap, to Europe. That's crazy demographics; especially for me," he added.

For much of his career, Zoe has worked independent of the Bad Boy founder, who hasn't appeared on or produced any of his two previous albums, and this time out is no different. 'Hangover 2' Stars Talk 'Chaos' At New York Premiere

Ed Helms tells MTV News that the comedy sequel is 'disturbing, horrifying, unnerving ... oh, and also hilarious.'
By Jocelyn Vena

NEW YORK CITY — Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and director Todd Phillips all showed up at the Landmark Sunshine Theater on Monday night to celebrate the premiere of "The Hangover Part II," the follow-up to 2009's hit buddy comedy about the aftermath of a lost night of debauchery in Las Vegas. Helms told MTV News on the red carpet that he never expected that he and his castmates would get back together for more partying and antics.

"We had no idea that 'The Hangover' would do what it did so we were all kind of blown away," Helms recalled. "But then very quickly a conversation for a sequel started and we were all kind of like, 'I don't know.' And then Todd showed us the script and it was amazing, so we were like, 'Yeah, let's do that.' "

The "that" turned out to be just as crazy as the first time around, with Helms, Cooper and Zach Galifianakis trying to piece together another lost evening of overindulgence, this time in Bangkok, Thailand. So, how would Helms describe the new flick? "Disturbing, horrifying, unnerving," he said. "Oh, and also hilarious. I forgot that ... Lots of craziness happened on set and you'll see all of that in the movie."

Phillips' description of the movie seems to mirror that of Helms. "Here's what it is: It's like the movie is about chaos [and] to capture chaos, you have to go to chaos, and we went to Bangkok," the director explained. Well, it seems that some people got a bit too caught up in the chaos.

"We lost them to their various vices and addictions," he added. "And in Bangkok, I think we had the same problem [that we had in Las Vegas for the first film]. It makes it a little harder [when people get caught up in the chaos]. There's always three or four guys that seem like weak links, that are, and you can tell when you're going to lose a crew guy to their vices and their wife comes and gets them and puts them in rehab and it gets better."

So how much are the "Hangover" stars like their characters in the film? "Well, we're exactly like the characters, but not how you think," Helms quipped. "I'm exactly like Zach, Zach's exactly like Bradley and Bradley's exactly like me, so go figure ... I have a huge beard and I'm a little portly."

Are you planning to see "The Hangover Part II" when it opens this weekend? Tell us in the comments.

Rick Ross Graces Covers Of Vibe And Complex Summer Issues

In addition to appearing on 'RapFix Live' this week, Ross drops Self Made and is the cover boy for two magazines.
By Rob Markman

Rick Ross has been hustling every day and he's definitely seized the moment. On Monday, the Boss dropped his new Maybach Music Group compilation Self Made and he's now appearing on the covers of both Vibe and Complex magazines.

Both magazine cover reveals came on the same day. The cover image for Vibe's June/July issue, which is also dubbed "The Sexy Issue," features Rozay shirtless with multiple black chains dangling from his neck. Complex/ magazine's June/July cover draws its inspiration from a "Jaws 2" movie poster and shows a more playful Ross posing as the killer shark and comedian Andy Samberg as his jet-skiing victim.

Complex, which has never featured Ross on the cover before, aimed to present the mafia-drenched rap star in a new light for their readers. "How do I take this thing and this guy who has taken this step forward in his career and then make it make sense for a men's style magazine that covers a lot of pop culture," Complex Editor in Chief Noah Callahan-Bever said.

(Which cover do you like more? Vote on RapFix blog.)

"We got to set and we showed him the 'Jaws 2' poster, and there's a little moment when you're like, 'Oh sh--, this might not go over so well,' and he just took a big, deep laugh and said, 'Y'all crazy,' " Callahan-Bever recounted.

For Vibe, the motivation was different. "Putting Ross on 'The Sexy Issue' is a pretty big statement," Editor in Chief Jermaine Hall said. "I was just happy that he was down to do it. Obviously he is comfortable with taking his shirt off. It's not the first time that he's done it. But the fact that it was 'The Sexy' cover, it brings a lot more meaning to it and a lot more attention to it."

With both Vibe and Complex hitting stands at the same time, both mag chiefs shot down any notion of a brewing competition. "I think we speak to two different readers. I definitely don't feel any competition. I think we skew a little bit older than they do," Hall said.

Callahan-Bever agreed. "No, I don't think it's a competition at all. I think our audiences are widely different," he said. "I don't feel like they are trying to appeal to the same people that we are."

In addition to his major magazine shots, the Boss will also appear on "RapFix Live" this Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET on MTV.com.

Taylor Swift's Video Evolution: From 'Tim McGraw' To 'The Story Of Us'

With her new 'Story' video set to premiere tonight on MTV, we take a look back at Swift's catalog of memorable clips.
By James Montgomery

Taylor Swift in her music video for "Fifteen"
Photo: Big Machine

Since the very beginning of her career, Taylor Swift has always played the ingenue; she is eternally innocent, endearingly wholesome, even when she has been epically wronged. And so, not surprisingly, her music videos have largely reflected that: Swift as the chaste, credulous creature forced to come to terms with those who have hurt her, usually heartbreakingly so (sometimes she also wears glasses).

But since she first burst onto the scene with the one-two tandem of "Tim McGraw" and "Teardrops on my Guitar," Swift has also grown as an artist ... and her videos have mirrored that maturation. "Mine" tackled the complexities of a relationship as viewed through the prism of Swift's past, and "Mean" saw her taking a stand for the bullied and the beaten; it was, in a sense, her own little Outcast Anthem.

And her latest video — "The Story of Us," which premieres Tuesday night (May 24) at 7:53 p.m. ET on MTV and MTV.com — continues the themes of both her early days and her more recent work. It is, of course, a love story, but there's a complexity to it too. (Oh, and once again, she's wearing glasses.) So in the spirit of the clip, we've decided to take a look back at some of Swift's most iconic video moments. ... It's her Music Video Evolution, a voyage that's taken her from wide-eyed country girl to equally wide-eyed international sensation and, fittingly, back again. She is, of course, always the ingenue.

"Tim McGraw"
In Swift's debut video, we see the formation of several archetypes that would subsequently define her as an artist: The purity and innocence of a white sundress, the cruel boy who didn't love her back, the dusty country roads, dented pick-up trucks, the scenes of young romance that seem lifted from a "Lifetime" movie (star-gazing from the bed of a truck, frolicking in a field, slow-dancing beneath the moon). It all begins here, in more ways than one.

"Teardrops on My Guitar"
Hey, it's her first video set in high school! In it, Swift plays a girl desperately trying to win the affections of a guy... said guy, of course, only has eyes for another. Heartbreak ensues. "Teardrops" was her first true crossover hit, and it's a fitting introduction to the Swift most of the world has grown to love: the sad-eyed pretty girl, gently strumming her guitar, just wanting to be loved.

"Picture to Burn"
The video in which Swift unveils another side of her personality: the jilted ex. It's a character she'd revisit on subsequent albums (with deliciously venomous results), but she's still learning here, so the best she and her bandmates can do to her former boyfriend is a rather thorough T.P.-ing of his house. Which, come to think of it, is nearly as mean-spirited as writing a song about him.

"You Belong With Me"
A genuine Cinderella story set (of course) in high school, with Taylor pulling double duty as both the ugly duckling (see, cuz she's wearing those glasses) and the cold-hearted beauty queen. In a rare twist, she actually gets the guy this time around, showing up at prom in a virginal white gown to prove that the duckling can also be a beautiful swan.

"Love Story"
Another fable, this one with Swift as a plaintive princess searching for her prince. It also doubles as a rather glossy high school fantasy and, in the end, she finds her soul mate in a shady, sullen outsider. Of course they fall in love — the song's called "Love Story" after all.

"Fifteen"
Swift's first (and so far, only) special-effects heavy clip, she wanders through a CGI-assembled high school hallway that transforms into a butterfly-strewn field. It's a dream-like tale of Freshman-year love, a story that Swift is all too happy to reveal doesn't always come with a happy ending.

"Mine"
Swift falls in love — and finds her future — with a toothsome waiter, and then is forced to come to terms with the fact that she may very well be following in the footsteps of her own mother. Her first video to step into maturity, and one where Swift seems to acknowledge that not all of life can be a fairy tale.

"Mean"
An earnest tale of inspiration directed at all those who feel like they don't belong — it's sort of her "It Gets Better" moment — and also a kiss-off to her critics (the "grumbling about how I can't sing" line). It's Swift embracing her status as an icon, one who, believe it or not, also must suffer the slings and arrows.

Justin Bieber Perfume Commercial: Released!

Ah, now we know why Justin Bieber jetted off with Selena Gomez over the weekend: he didn't want her to see him smelling another girl.

Debuting tonight after the Glee season finale, television viewers will see commercials for "Someday," the female fragrance created by the Biebs that will go on sale next month. We've got an early look at it here, as Justin gets awfully cozy with one VERY lucky model...

Beyonce 'Felt Honored' To Perform On 'Oprah'

Singer's choreographer gives MTV News the inside scoop on B's 'Oprah Winfrey Show' farewell-week performance.

The first part of the two-part "Oprah Winfrey Show" star-studded surprise episode aired Monday (May 23), and with appearances from Tom Hanks, Tom Cruise, Dakota Fanning, Halle Berry, Diane Sawyer and Madonna, it was Beyoncé and her over-the-top, girl-powered stage spectacle that had the audience — and Oprah — moving.

Donning a tuxedo bodysuit and surrounded by a cavalcade of all-female backup dancers, Beyoncé strutted her stuff as she performed her new single, "Run the World (Girls)."

"Oprah, your persuasion can build a nation," B said mid-song. "We love you, Oprah. Thank you," she told the talk-show host at the end of the performance, giving a hug to Winfrey.

Last week, MTV News spoke to Beyoncé's longtime choreographer, Frank Gatson Jr., who commented on the honor of performing for Oprah during her epic farewell week. (The final "Oprah Winfrey Show" episode airs Wednesday.)

"It's amazing. Me, myself, Beyoncé, people of color — we have so much respect for that woman" Gaston said. "How can we say no to [Oprah]? She possesses something that God has given her, 'cause when I saw her onstage, of all the people that were there, everyone's in awe of her — Tom Cruise, Halle Berry, Madonna — so we felt honored, privileged. That's why Beyoncé pushed us so hard. She wanted to make sure that Oprah's proud of what she did for her show. She did such an important number.

"In Oprah's world, women rule the world, so how coincidental that Beyoncé's song is called that?" he continued. "So it was just appropriate, perfection. I loved it. It was great to be there. The energy in that place was unbelievable."

What did you think of Beyoncé's "Oprah" appearance? Let us know in the comments!

Dancing With the Stars Finals Recap: A Two-Horse Race?

All three finalists proved themselves deserving of the Mirror Ball last night.

There can be only one champion of Dancing With the Stars, though, and more than likely, it will come down to one of two couples on this evening's results show.

Monday night's dueling DWTS finale performances involved two categories - a first round of judges' choice and a second round of freestyle dance.

Chelsea Kane aced both with the kind of fierce determination and focus necessary to execute partner Mark Ballas' unconventional choreography.

Kane and Ballas

Her first dance, a samba, had Bruno deeming her an "an ultra sexy bombshell" and commending the "rhythm flowing through your body like I've never seen before."

Chelsea and Mark's second dance, a freestyle Tron-esque number, earned them a 30 to go with the 29 in their salsa, posting a number near impossible to best.

Hines Ward and Kym Johnson felt up to the task, however.

The NFL star donned a top hat for this week's judges' choice in a peppy quick step that ended with a burst of flair and champaigne at the judges' table.

"You make it like you're running for a touchdown and the whole crowd is cheering for you and following you around the ballroom," Carrie Ann said.

Only Len's nine kept them from scoring perfectly in that routine, but he changed his tune after a freestyle that mimicked a half-time show. Tens for all!

"This competition is about give and take in terms of the points you get," Len began, with Hines beaming all the way. "And you just gave it your all."

The final pair of the night, Kirstie Alley and partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy, fell short of their competitors' scores but certainly didn't disappoint.

A trim Kirstie scored solid 9s for her sultry samba in the first round, then earned another set of 9s with freestyle cartwheels and lifts galore.

Maksim and Kirstie

"That dance," Carrie Ann began, "really embodies what you've become. You're like the posterchild for life as it should be lived at 60 years old!"

Indeed, but does she have a chance tonight?

Most likely, Kirstie will be your second runner-up, with Chelsea and Hines duking it out for the crown. There is one more dance tonight for judges’ scores.

What do you think, fans? Who was your favorite, and who would you like to see carry home the Mirror Ball after a spirited final night of performances?

The scores from Monday's routines:

  • Chelsea Kane and Mark Ballas: 59 (29, 30).
  • Hines Ward and Kym Johnson: 59 (29, 30).
  • Kirstie Alley and Makskim Chmerkovskiy: 54 (27, 27).

Who will win Dancing With the Stars?

The death of Cali Swag District member M-Bone has not only affected the dancer's family and friends, but the hip-hop community as well. In light of the overwhelming response to his untimely death, the family of the CSD artist (born Mante Talbert) has decided to open up his funeral to the public.

"There has been a tremendous outreach of concern and the family would like to have the funeral open to the public and fans that would like to support," Cali Swag's publicist said in a statement released on Friday (May 20).

For fans wanting to attend, services will take place on Friday, May 27, at 11 a.m. PT at Faithful Central on 333 W. Florence Avenue in Inglewood, California.

On May 15, at approximately 10:30 p.m. PT, 22-year old M-Bone was shot twice in the head while sitting in his car on La Brea Avenue in Inglewood. Despite reports that Talbert was killed by a neighbor who was jealous of his success, police still have no clear-cut motive and no arrest has been made, according to an Inglewood homicide detective who spoke to MTV News on Friday.

Bone was one of four Cali Swag District members, and the group rose to fame with their 2010 platinum single "Teach Me How to Dougie." CSD collaborators Jermaine Dupri, Red Café and B.o.B have all expressed their condolences, as have fellow L.A. group New Boyz.

In a video posted on TMZ.com, Cali Swag members C-Smoove and JayAre told fans that M-Bone's death was not related to gang violence and expressed love for their fallen bandmate.

The Inglewood Police Department is asking anyone with information to come forward and call its homicide division at (310) 412-5246 or its 24-hour anonymous hotline number, (888) 41 CRIME, or (888) 412-7463.

The Foo Fighters are often known for crafting entertaining videos that feel like mini movies. But when they take the stage on June 5 at the 2011 MTV Movie Awards the Foos will leave the movie-making to the pros while they focus strictly on rocking as their new single, "Walk."

It's the first appearance at the Movie Awards by the Foos since 2005, and they join an already star-studded line up that includes fellow performers Lupe Fiasco and Trey Songz hooking up for the first TV performance of their song "Out of My Head," followed by Lupe solo on "The Show Goes On."
