Keith Olbermann: Fired By Current TV!

Keith Olbermann has just been fired by the cable network that took him in after the much higher-profile cable network he was previously on cut him loose.

Current TV, which was co-founded by Al Gore, released a statement saying it was parting ways with the pundit, surprisingly citing a difference in values.

The decision comes less than a year after Keith Olbermann was fired by MSNBC, then hired by Current to help energize the network’s primetime ratings.

Olbermann

Current said in a statement this afternoon:

"We created Current to give voice to those Americans who refuse to rely on corporate-controlled media and are seeking an authentic progressive outlet."

"We are more committed to those goals today than ever before."

"Current was founded on the values of respect, openness, collegiality, and loyalty to our viewers. Unfortunately these values are no longer reflected in our relationship with Keith Olbermann and we have ended it."

Current also announced today that it will be giving former New York Governor and CNN personality Eliot Spitzer a show in the network’s 8 p.m. hour.

Nas Chose Producers Who Were 'Gonna Be There' For Life Is Good

Salaam Remi, No I.D., Heavy D and Da Internz all worked with Esco on his upcoming LP.

Throughout his career, Nas has worked with some of the most celebrated hip-hop producers from Dr. Dre and DJ Premier to the Trackmasters and Swizz Beatz, but for his next LP, Life Is Good, Esco chose to keep the vibe more intimate.

"I wanted to work on a record where it's just not a lot of people," Nas said when he appeared on "RapFix Live" on Wednesday. "So it's mostly No I.D., Saalam Remi, Da Internz; those are the ones who basically gave me the music. They knew what I wanted; they sat with me."

On 2001's Stillmatic, Remi contributed the beat for "What Goes Around" and then came back the next year to give Esco two singles for his God's Son LP ("Made You Look" and "I Can"). No I.D. and Nas have some history as well. In 2007, the Nasty one hopped on the No I.D.-produced cut "Success" off of Jay-Z's American Gangster album, and late last year, Nas, Common and the Chicago producer collaborated on "Ghetto Dreams."

"I needed producers that's gonna be there and get into what I want to get into, have the conversation and start making the records based off of what I'm looking for," God's Son said.

Heavy D also lent a production hand prior to his death last year, making the beat for Life Is Good's latest single, "The Don." Nas didn't find out that Heavy sent the music for him to use until after he died however. "I looked up to Heav," he said. "He's an icon, a music icon."

Snow White Puts Up A Fight In 'Mirror Mirror'

Lily Collins tells MTV News her Snow is a 'young woman who found out that she can save a prince as much as a prince can save her.'
By Kara Warner

If you're looking for a fun, fantastical, family-friendly movie to see this weekend, Tarsem's "Mirror Mirror" has you covered. The visually appealing and star-studded film is a new spin on an old classic, featuring an exuberant "man child" of a prince played by Armie Hammer, Oscar winner Julia Roberts as an unhealthily vain Evil Queen and Lily Collins as a more independent and self-assured Snow White.

When MTV News caught up with Roberts and Collins recently, we asked them to explain how their characters differ from the familiar fairy-tale mold.

"I think she's deeply misunderstood," Roberts said of her Evil Queen. "And I think she is correct in her ambition and drive and desire and focus to annihilate Snow White. And I don't think there's anything wrong with that. She's clear," she joked. "She's exacting."

Collins explained that her Snow White is not your typical damsel in distress. "She really becomes a fighter, emotionally and physically, and turns into this young woman who found out that she can save a prince as much as a prince can save her," she said. "She really becomes this fighter, and I got to swordfight and fence and wrestle and do all these cool things that you don't normally associate with a princess."

Speaking of fighters and swordfights, we couldn't help but ask for the castmembers' opinions on the fact that another Snow White-centric film, "Snow White and the Huntsman," will be hot on the heels of "Mirror Mirror" when it opens June 1 and how it might fare against their film.

"I'm interested to see what they did," Hammer admitted. "I think what we did is make a movie that's family-friendly. The parents are going to go to it and enjoy it almost as much as the kids are. Plus our movie kicks that movie's ass, let's be honest," he added with a grin. "Yeah. And we're out first. And we're gonna kick their ass!" he joked, clearly not concerned with competing against "Huntsman." "We're gonna make so much more money than they are! Our Rotten Tomatoes score is gonna be so much higher."

Check out everything we've got on "Mirror Mirror."

Ralph Fiennes Chooses His Most Villainous Villain

From Lord Voldermort to a Nazi officer, the 'Wrath of the Titans' star chooses the baddest of his bad guys.
By Kevin P. Sullivan

Ralph Fiennes
Photo: MTV News

Few actors have been known for playing the bad guy quite like Ralph Fiennes. His career has introduced him to all different sorts of evil characters, from a Nazi officer, to the darkest wizard of our time, and most recently in "Wrath of the Titans," Hades, the lord of the Underworld.

With such a long list of villainous evil-doers to his name, could there be a most evil Ralph Fiennes character?

Even the man himself couldn't say for certain when MTV News spoke with him. "If they're fantasy figures, I don't know how evil they are, but I guess somewhere between Amon Goeth [in 'Schindler's List'] and Francis Dolarhyde in 'Red Dragon' would be really evil," he said.

But after playing the worst characters some fictional worlds have to offer, Fiennes said that his latest character could signal a new trend toward mortality.

His most recent villain, Hades, turns out to be not much of one in "Wrath of the Titans." "Hades is full of resentment, and I guess he's pretty destructive initially," Fiennes said. "I like it in this film, he has a change of heart and joins forces with the brother he started off hating. So that was a bit more for me to play."

For his next role, in the upcoming James Bond film "Skyfall," no details have been officially shared about his character. But Fiennes did hint that it may be different from the villains he played in the past: "I don't think that qualifies as a villain. I think that my villain days are coming to an end, I think."

Who do you think is Ralph Fiennes' most evil character? Sound off in the comments section!

Box Office: "The Hunger Games" Tops "Titans" & "Mirror Mirror"

Holding off strong showings by two newly released contestants, "The Hunger Games" continued its dominant performance by remaining in the top spot at the box office over the weekend of March 30-April 1, 2012.

The Jennifer Lawrence starring Sci-Fi/Action/Drama film based on Suzanne Collins' best-selling book raked in an estimated $24 million on Friday with its second weekend total predicted to wind up at a solid $75 million - which puts its grand total past the $190 million mark.

Pitching in on another big weekend for Hollywood is runner-up "Wrath of the Titans," as the Sam Worthington starring action/adventure film is on track to score a $11.2 million opening day while trending towards a debut weekend gross of $29 million.

Rounding out the top five at the box office in estimated totals are the Julia Roberts/Lily Collins led Snow White tale "Mirror Mirror" ($22 million), followed by a style="color: #FF5AAD; text-decoration: none" href="/channing-tatum/story" target=""> Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill's comedy caper "21 Jump Street" ($11 million) and the animated Dr. Seuss family flick "The Lorax" ($8.5 million).

'Titanic' Theme Song Makes Kate Winslet 'Feel Like Throwing Up'

'Bless you, Celine, but it does rather haunt me,' the actress admits to MTV News of 'My Heart Will Go On.'
By Fallon Prinzivalli

Kate Winslet
Photo: MTV News

"Like throwing up." That's how Kate Winslet feels when she hears Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go On," the once-inescapable theme to "Titanic."

"No, I shouldn't say that," Winslet added, thinking through her response before coming to this conclusion: "No, actually, I do feel like throwing up."

Since its release in 1997, the film has stuck with Winslet wherever she goes. It was the movie that helped her sky-rocket to the A-list, after all, and no one is likely to forget Dion's iconic song from "Titanic," set to be re-released in 3-D on April 4.

"I wish I could say, 'Oh listen, everybody! It's the Celine Dion song!' But I don't," Winslet admitted. "I just have to sit there, you know, kind of straight-faced with a massive internal eye roll."

Winslet went on to explain that every time she walks into a bar or a restaurant with a pianist, they never miss an opportunity to start playing the notes. "It's thrilling for people to surprise me with the Celine Dion song," she laughed.

But they not only play the tune for her, they also encourage the Oscar winner to sing it herself. "I did a talk show recently in Italy and they actually had a live pianist who started gently playing the theme song. I was not even gently, rather severely, urged to go and sing it as though I had in fact sung it myself in the first place. It was like, 'No! I'm not going to do that.' They're like, 'Oh no, come on it will be funny.' No, it won't be funny. At all. And I'm not going to."

Unfortunately for the actress, it's not just the theme song that haunts her. Whenever she boards a boat, she's the butt of jokes.

"Honestly, I actually now get onto boats and say, 'No jokes, OK? No jokes. Can we just move on from that? And if you have any jokes, let's just get them out of the way right now. Thank you. Anyone? Jokes, jokes? OK, moving on.' And then they still tell jokes," Winslet said. The most common joke is asking her to head to the front of the boat with them to reenact the iconic scene between hers and Leonardo DiCaprio's characters on the rail. To that she replies, "Oh, yeah! Oh, that one! Oh, don't worry, it's my party piece. Sure, come on up, bring your granny."

But Winslet is actually an amazing sport about the jokes. She understands how deeply the film touched its audience. And now that it will be on the big screen again, it can reach a whole new generation — including her children who will see it for the very first time.

"What's negative about it? Really, nothing at all," she said of the 3-D treatment. "It's very different and much more present. It's bigger — if you can believe that — but it is and you really do feel like you're in it."

Audiences will be able to relive the tragic love story — or experience for the first time — when "Titanic" it hits theaters in 3-D on April 4.

'Twins' May Find Long-Lost Triplet In Eddie Murphy

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito may reunite for 'Triplets,' the sequel to the 1988 comedy 'Twins.'
By Gil Kaufman

Eddie Murphy

Some old movie franchises never die, they just go into the deep freeze for, oh, almost a quarter century. Case in point: "Twins." Surely you remember the hit high-concept 1988 comedy starring then-huge actor Arnold Schwarzenegger and his half-sized "brother" Danny DeVito? The goofball premise had the two stumbling through wacky adventures, with the, ahem, intellectual, physically perfect Julius (Arnold) struggling to connect with his long-lost small-time crook fraternal twin bro Vincent (DeVito) after the pair were separated at birth.

Bottom line: The movie grossed more than $200 million worldwide, and now, Universal Pictures is hoping to reboot the franchise nearly 25 years later. There is, of course, a new twist: Not only would the former California governor and the "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia" star be reprising their roles, but they would find out that the mad scientists who created them also cooked up a third brother.

Cue "Triplets," with third comedic wheel Eddie Murphy. The Hollywood Reporter said no director is connected to the flick yet, but noted that original director Ivan Reitman, would be onboard as a producer through his Montecito Picture Co. banner. The backers are still looking for writers to work up a script, and while the actors are reportedly attached to star, the studios have not yet sat down to discuss the creative aspect of the project.

The film could be a boon for Murphy, who is coming off yet another box-office bomb with the long-delayed "A Thousand Words," while Schwarzenegger is still attempting to revive his acting career after two terms as California governor and a nasty split from his wife, Maria Shriver. DeVito has continued to appear in mostly under-the-radar films for the past five to six years, but has a solid hit on his hands at the moment as the voice of "The Lorax."

Sam Worthington Laughs Off 'Titans' Hair Controversy

'I got more criticism about my hair than Jennifer Aniston did when she started 'Friends,' ' the 'Wrath of the Titans' star quips to MTV News.
By Kevin P. Sullivan

When previews began to play for "Wrath of the Titans," the follow-up to 2010's "Clash of the Titans," the element of the trailer that got the biggest reaction wasn't the mythological beasts or the battling gods, but the longer locks on star Sam Worthington's head.

Gone was Perseus' anachronistic buzz cut from the original — a nitpicking problem for some who saw "Clash" — and in its stead was Worthington's naturally curly hair.

"I got more criticism about my hair than Jennifer Aniston did when she started 'Friends,' " Worthington quipped to MTV News.

With so much of the attention leading into the film's premiere focused squarely on Worthington's head, the actor told MTV News he isn't too worried about those people's opinions. "My brain goes, 'If that's the only thing you're going to be focusing on, maybe you should get out more,' " Worthington said.

Liam Neeson, Worthington's co-star, offered some kind words about the change in hairdo.

"His hair was good," Neeson said.

"The hair was good," Worthington agreed.

Within the fictional realm of "Wrath of the Titans," the change in hairstyle makes sense for its own reasons. "The story jumps 10 years," Neeson said. The sequel picks up a decade after the end of "Clash of the Titans." Perseus is now a father and recent widower, and it isn't long before his deadbeat dad Zeus comes a-callin', asking for help once more.

Still, Worthington continued to make light of the hairy discussion, suggesting that if the franchise were to continue, his hair options have no bounds. "It took Perseus 10 years. If we did another one, I'd just go longer. I'll just keep going," he said. "By the time you get to 'Wrath of the Titans 10,' I'll look like Cousin Itt."

"And each hair is a demigod," Neeson added. "Think about that."

'Hunger Games' Fans Have Spoken: Jennifer Lawrence Isn't Too Curvy

'Jennifer Lawrence is the perfect Katniss Everdeen!' one MTV News commenter writes.
By Elizabeth Lancaster

Jennifer Lawrence in "The Hunger Games"

After devouring the books and flooding movie theaters, "Hunger Games" fans have become fiercely loyal to the actors who embodied their favorite characters. And those die-hards are not taking kindly to suggestions that Jennifer Lawrence is too curvy to play Katniss Everdeen.

Much of the backlash stems from New York Times film critic Manohla Dargis' review of the film, in which she wrote: "A few years ago Ms. Lawrence might have looked hungry enough to play Katniss, but now, at 21, her seductive, womanly figure makes a bad fit for a dystopian fantasy about a people starved into submission."

On Wednesday, when MTV News checked in with "Hunger Games" experts for their feelings on the subject, many of you took to our comments section and our Twitter to let us know just how much you disagree with Dargis' take on the lead actress.

MTV.com reader DavidB presented this quote from Suzanne Collins' book, in which Katniss describes her own body: "I stand straight, and while I'm thin, I'm strong. The meat and plants from the woods combined with the exertion it took to get them have given me a healthier body than most of those I see around me."

Another commenter, GrantGibbs1, wrote, "Jennifer Lawrence is the perfect Katniss Everdeen! She's not even fat??? First racist comments now weight issues," the commenter added, in reference to the issues some moviegoers have had over Rue being played by a black actress.

For many fans and readers, it's not about accuracy, but respect and admiration for Jennifer Lawrence as an actress, as well as defending young women from the pressures that create body issues. On Twitter, @PromiseKidrauhl told us Lawrence "was perfectly picked to play Katniss," while @valvdg wrote, "As if young women didn't have enough weight issues."

It's not too late to make your voice heard: What do you think about the controversy over Jennifer Lawrence's body?

Madonna And Lionel Richie To Reunite On Billboard Charts?

The singers are expected to return to the top five next week, the first time they've been chart mates in 26 years.
By Gil Kaufman

America was still four years away from the first of three wars in the Middle East, Lady Gaga was a newborn, and the Internet was just a twinkle in the eye of some academic nerds' coke-bottle glasses.

That's how long it's been since Madonna and Lionel Richie were both in the top five of the Billboard 200 chart at the same time. The year was 1986, and Richie was riding high with his smash #1 album, Dancing on the Ceiling, while Madge was at #5 with her former #1, True Blue.

Next week the pair will be chart mates again, as Madonna's dance-tastic MDNA is predicted to sell between 300,000 and 350,000 copies to take the top spot, while Richie's album of country re-workings of his biggest hits, Tuskegee, should land at #2 on sales of 125,000 to 150,000.

Back in the day, both were celebrating the release of their third album. Madonna dedicated her "girliest" work to date to her then-husband, actor Sean Penn, even as she began delving into more topical songs ("Papa Don't Preach") and Latin rhythms ("La Isla Bonita"). For an artist who'd already ascended to pop stardom with her first two discs, True Blue was a chance for Madonna to expand her fanbase, and though it debuted at #28, it eventually reached #1, where it stayed for five weeks. Among the singles released from the album are "Live to Tell," the title track and "Open Your Heart." It went on to sell more than 25 million copies worldwide.

For Richie, it was also a time of transition. The former Commodores singer — who was born in Tuskegee, Alabama — had scored some hits on his first two solo albums, including "My Love," the Caribbean-spiced "All Night Long," "Hello" and "Running With the Night."

While Madonna continues to be one of the biggest live draws in the world and a global superstar, Dancing on the Ceiling marked the beginning of the end of Richie's mass popularity. But, the famously well-coiffed singer went out with a huge bang. Not only was the title cut a #1 single and hugely popular video, but the album also spawned the moving ballad "Say You, Say Me," as well as "Love Will Conquer All" and "Ballerina Girl."

While Madonna continued to crank out hit albums such as Like a Prayer, Erotica and Bedtime Stories, it would be 10 years before Richie was back on the charts. His Louder Than Words came out in April 1996, debuting at #33 and not spawning any memorable hits. Against the usual pop music odds, Madonna is still launching singles onto the charts, recently played the most coveted gig in music — the Super Bowl halftime show — and has collaborated with modern stars like Nicki Minaj. Richie has been lower-profile, but served a well-received stint as a guest mentor on the second-biggest reality music competition on TV, "The Voice," and he roped in such big-name country stars as Kenny Chesney, Shania Twain, Jason Aldean, Darius Rucker, Rascal Flatts, Sugarland's Jennifer Nettles, Blake Shelton, Willie Nelson and old pal Kenny Rogers.

Pauly D Reintroduces Himself On 'The Pauly D Project'

'I'm really excited just to show the world that side of me,' Pauly says of 'Jersey Shore' spin-off, premiering tonight at 10:30 p.m. ET/PT on MTV.

After five seasons of "Jersey Shore," we know DJ Pauly D pretty well. He's the ultimate prankster who never beefs with anyone, takes crucial care of his beloved sneaker collection and has a crunchy blowout that defies all laws of physics.

But the Rhode Island kid has many more sides to show us, and he plans to put them all on display in his spin-off show, "The Pauly D Project." When asked what parts of his personality "Shore" watchers are missing out on, Pauly told MTV News' Sway, "Just how much I am all about my home, my family and my friends — you don't really see that."

In the show — which debuts tonight (March 29) at 10:30 p.m. ET, right after the reboot of "Punk'd" — viewers will tag along as Pauly hits Las Vegas for his DJ residency at the Palms Hotel and Casino with his whole crew in tow, including turntable inspiration Biggie, bodyguard Jerry and wingman Ryan. They'll also get to see Pauly go home to visit his friends and family and sign a mind-blowing record deal with the G-Note division of 50 Cent's G-Unit Records.

Oh, and did we mention he also hits the road as the opening act for Britney Spears? Yeah, buddy.

"Now you get to see me take my closest friends on the road with me from Rhode Island, and you get to see Rhode Island," he said. "I'm really excited just to show the world that side of me."

His hookup with 50 is already paying dividends, as the G-Unit General recently tapped Pauly to help out in the first commercial for the rapper's Street King energy drink. Pauly jumped in front of the camera with 50 and legendary comedian Joan Rivers for what the MC said was a "real oddball group" intended to target a wide range of potential audiences.

Don't miss the premiere of ""The Pauly D Project" tonight at 10:30 p.m. ET/PT on MTV, following the reboot of "Punk'd"! For continuing "Pauly" coverage, be sure to check in with MTV's Remote Control blog.

Armie Hammer's 'Mirror Mirror' Prince Is 'A Man-Child'

'Hopefully, he contains a few more dimensions than just 'Prince Charming,' ' actor tells MTV News.
By Kara Warner

If you've seen the action-packed trailer for "Mirror Mirror" — one of two Snow White-themed movies coming out this year — you're aware that the visually appealing, Tarsem-directed, family-friendly film is a new spin on the classic tale.

When the flick hits theaters Friday, audiences will see a feisty, independent young princess played by Lily Collins, Oscar-winner Julia Roberts showing off a rarely seen evil side and, of course, a handsome Prince Charming played by Armie Hammer. But don't think for a minute that you'll be seeing a stereotypical prince. MTV News recently caught up with the "Social Network" star to discuss the character's atypical traits.

"He's not drawn on the page, which is one of the first things that makes him slightly different," Hammer joked about the character's animated inspirations. "He's a little bit more of a man-child and a little bit more of a kid trying to find his place in the world as a prince, [wondering] why is he a prince and stuff like that. Hopefully, he contains a few more dimensions than just 'Prince Charming.' "

Multi-dimensional or not, there is a certain dreamboat factor required of the actor playing him, which Hammer was happy to joke about when we asked him just how dreamy the character would be. "How dreamy is he? Dreeea-my," Hammer promised us in May 2011. "Let's just say, they're going to have to change the rating," he joked, before getting serious to talk about the reason he signed onto the project: director Tarsem Singh.

"[Tarsem] is one of the reasons I signed on to do this," Hammer revealed. "The idea of playing Prince Charming wasn't really exciting — it kind of sounds more nerdy than anything else — but then they're like, 'Tarsem's doing it,' and I'm like, 'Done. You want me to play a trash can? I'll do it to be in this movie.' " Hammer added that he's a big admirer of Tarsem's work, and joked that he'd be taking plenty of notes during filming.

Stars of The Hunger Games Speak on Jennifer Lawrence

Jennifer Lawrence bares every emotion possible in The Hunger Games: fear, confidence, exuberance, sadness.

She also bared her naked body the first time she met Zoe Kravitz, whose father stars in the blockbuster film as fashion guru Cinna.

“I’d met her a few times, and she was like, ‘You should come over and we’ll hang out,'" Zoe tells Rolling Stone. "So I go over to her apartment, and she opens the door in a towel. She’s like, ‘Come in, sorry, you’re early, I was about to shower.’ And she drops her towel and gets in the shower, and starts shaving her legs, totally naked. She was like, ‘Are we here yet? Is this OK?’ And I was like, ‘I guess we’re there!’”

Jennifer Lawrence Rolling Stone Cover

Lawrence apparently made quite the first impression on two others associated with the movie, too. Says Woody Harrelson of their initial meeting:

“I was on my bus, and on my bus I have a yoga swing. Jennifer comes on, and she goes, ‘Hi, Woody, I’m J— is that a sex swing?’ Her first sentence to me.”

And then there's this tale from Josh Hutcherson:

"When I got cast, she called me up for one of those five-minute 'Excited to work with you, blah, blah, blah' things. The conversation started with her saying, 'Think about a catheter going in – ouch!' and then turns into a 45-minute rant about zombies and the apocalypse."

Bobby Brown: Charged with DUI, Suspended License

After recently being nabbed for his second DUI, Bobby Brown has now charged with driving under the influence and driving with a suspended license on Wednesday (March 28).

As previously reported by GossipCenter, the "New Edition" singer was stopped by the Los Angeles Police Department just after noon on Monday for talking on his cell phone while operating his motor vehicle.

The charges were then upped when officials determined Brown was driving while on a then unknown substance, which has now been confirmed to be alcohol - as he registered 0.12 on a BAC test.

The arrest comes just six weeks after Brown's former wife, singing legend Whitney Houston, passed away unexpectedly at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

'Bully' Will Be Released Unrated

Weinstein Co. is releasing the documentary on bullying unrated in a protest against an R.
By Gil Kaufman

A Scene from "Bully"

Actors, singers, politicians, educators and high school kids have been protesting the R rating given to the anti-bullying documentary "Bully," but the ratings board would not budge. So, instead of folding, frequently outspoken Weinstein Co. co-founder Harvey Weinstein has decided to release the film unrated.

"The small amount of language in the film that's responsible for the R rating is there because it's real," director Lee Hirsch said of the multiple f-bombs that landed the film its restricted rating, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "It's what the children who are victims of bullying face on most days. All of our supporters see that, and we're grateful for the support we've received across the board. I know the kids will come, so it's up to the theaters to let them in."

The film depicts the painful results of school bullying and follows several families who've been impacted by bullying. But because it was given an R rating, it cannot be screened in middle and high schools.

Weinstein began a public appeal of the rating last month, making the case that it would freeze out the very teens and others under 18 who most need to hear its powerful message.

The rating war inspired 17-year-old Katy Butler to start a viral petition to get the decision changed. Not only did her movement win her a GLAAD Media Award
over the weekend, but it also drew nearly 500,000 signatures and support from the likes of Justin Bieber, Demi Lovato, Johnny Depp and Ellen DeGeneres.

Though unrated films are often shut out of many theater chains out of respect for the ratings board, the CEO of the AMC chain, Gerry Lopez, said he will allow certain theaters in his circuit to screen the movie. "Bully" opens on March 30 in New York and Los Angeles. The movie has gotten another unlikely partner in the form of computing giant Microsoft. According to the Los Angeles Times, Microsoft has agreed to use its Bing search engine to promote "Bully" with a TV and social media ad campaign.

'Hunger Games' Star Liam Hemsworth: What's Next?

Two films with Dwayne Johnson, a Vietnam War romance and 'The Expendables 2' are in the Aussie actor's future.
By Fallon Prinzivalli

With "The Hunger Games" slaughtering its competition at the box office this past weekend, everyone's eyes are locked on the movie's three main stars to see what's next. For those of you who loved Liam Hemsworth's short but sweet scenes as Katniss Everdeen's best friend, Gale, you're in luck.

While we're sure the Aussie actor is enjoying the benefits of working hard on the film, he's not sitting around waiting to film the sequel. He has quite a few other films in the works. Here are a few things to look forward to from the youngest Hemsworth brother.

First on the list is his role as Bill "the Kid" Timmons, the newest addition to Sylvester Stallone's team, in "The Expendables 2." Mr. Church, played by Bruce Willis, enlists the Expendables for a job that seems like an easy paycheck. But when a member of the crew is brutally murdered, the Expendables seek revenge and find themselves on enemy turf with an unexpected threat looming over their heads. Also returning to the movie are Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture and Terry Crews. Yu Nan joins Hemsworth as another of the team's newcomers in the film, which is set to release on August 17.

After watching Hemsworth battle it out in that action flick, you can catch him in a different type of warring film titled "AWOL." Based on a true story, the film follows a young Vietnam soldier who returns home to the States in search of his newly ex-girlfriend. Austin Stowell plays the broken-hearted soldier, Joiner, and Aimee Teegarden plays Juniper, his high school sweetheart. Hemsworth stars as Joiner's best friend, Wright, who accompanies him on the risky journey. The backdrop of the film, which will be released later this year, is the anti-war movement at the University of Michigan.

Josh Hutcherson isn't the only 'Hunger Games' actor who may be working with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. Next year, Hemsworth will star alongside the wrestler-turned-actor in "Empire State." Also based on a true story, the movie follows a plan set in motion by two childhood friends (one of whom will be played by Hemsworth) to rob an armored car depository. Johnson plays an NYPD officer who attempts to stop the cash heist, and Emma Roberts joins the cast as a waitress who takes interest in Hemsworth's character.

Then, in 2014, Johnson and Hemsworth will reunite for "Arabian Nights." The tale weaves together some of our favorite adventures as a young commander named Ali Baba (Hemsworth) teams up with Sinbad (Johnson), Aladdin and Aladdin's genie in order to rescue Scheherazade and her kingdom from the dark forces of a sorcerer.

And, of course, you will see Hemsworth reprise his role as Gale Hawthorne in the November 22, 2013, release of "Catching Fire." Gale will be in the picture more often this time around, and we're excited to see how Hemsworth develops the character.

'Hunger Games' Star Josh Hutcherson: What's Next?

Post-Peeta, the actor has a horror/comedy film and 'Red Dawn' on the horizon.
By Kara Warner

Josh Hutcherson in "The Hunger Games"

Those of you who've seen "The Hunger Games" will more than likely agree with our sentiment that there are a number of things to love about the weekend's box-office dominator. The film's success is first and foremost due to author Suzanne Collins' brilliance, followed by director Gary Ross' sleek and stylish take on the adaptation and, of course, the performances of the very talented cast.

One of those standout performances is Josh Hutcherson's portrayal of loyal and lovable boy with the bread Peeta Mellark. He's so good in the film we just can't wait to see what he does with the character's arc in "Catching Fire." Unfortunately, we have to wait about 20 months until that happens, so in the meantime, here's a look at where and when you can see more of Hutcherson's work on the big screen.

First up is the R-rated teen horror/comedy film "Detention," which hits select theaters April 13. In the uniquely twisted and slightly outrageous film, Hutcherson plays Clapton Davis, a student of Grizzly Lake High School just trying to make it through the school year when slasher-movie killer Cinderhella descends on the school and goes on a killing spree. "Detention" played at last year's South by Southwest film festival and received many surprised-but-delighted reactions. It also stars Dane Cook, Shanley Caswell and Spencer Locke.

After watching a different side of Hutcherson's skills in "Detention," look for the coming-of-age drama "Carmel," in which Hutcherson plays an artistically gifted teenager who is abandoned by his drug-addicted mother and ends up in the small seaside town of Carmel, California, where he is introduced to the art-forgery community. Hayden Panettiere and Alfred Molina also star. According to the film's Facebook page, the release date for the film will be sometime in June, to be timed with the DVD/Blu-ray releases of "Hunger Games" and "Journey 2."

In November, we'll get to see more of Hutcherson's action-movie skills in the remake of the 1984 film "Red Dawn," the release of which has been long-delayed due to the studio's financial troubles. The story revolves around a group of teenagers who resist the occupation/invasion of a foreign army in their town. Hutcherson stars alongside Chris Hemsworth, Josh Peck, Adrianne Palicki and Isabel Lucas.

After "Red Dawn" comes out, we very likely won't see Hutcherson on the big screen again until next year, when "Catching Fire" is released November 22, 2013.

Black Keys Start Beef With Spotify's Sean Parker

'He's an a--hole,' drummer Patrick Carney says of Parker in response to claims the Spotify board member made at SXSW.
By James Montgomery

Black Keys' Patrick Carney

At this point, you're probably aware that the Black Keys' Patrick Carney has taken over the Noel Gallagher/Brandon Flowers role as the industry's "oft-quoted sh-- talker" — a list of his recent accomplishments includes beefing with Lady Gaga fans, calling Nickelback "crap" (though he subsequently sorta apologized), and singling out members of the media as being "pricks" — and he's living up to the title with his latest comments that take shots at Napster founder/ Spotify boardmember Sean Parker.

In a new interview with Michigan radio station WGRD, Carney took issue with Parker's recent comments that within two years, Spotify would overtake iTunes in total revenue, mostly because, well:

"Because [Parker's] an a--hole. That guy has $2 billion that he made from figuring out ways to steal royalties from artists, and that's the bottom line," Carney said. "You can't really trust anybody like that. The idea of a streaming service, like Netflix for music, I'm totally not against it. It's just we won't put all of our music on it until there are enough subscribers for it to make sense."

The subscription-based Spotify would have to really churn and burn if it wants to catch iTunes in terms of revenue (iTunes sells individual tracks, and controls roughly 70 percent of the U.S. download market), and let's just say Carney isn't rooting for them to do it.

"Trust me, [Keys frontman] Dan [Auerbach] and I like to make money. If it was fair to the artist, we would be involved in it. I honestly don't want to see Sean Parker succeed in anything," he said. "I imagine if Spotify becomes something that people are willing to pay for, then I'm sure iTunes will just create their own service, and they're actually fair to artists."

In the past, the Black Keys famously refused to allow their El Camino album to stream on sites like Spotify. And though the debate over Spotify's royalty payments to artists continues, Parker has yet to respond to Carney's barbs.

What do you think of Carney's position on Spotify? Tell us in the comments below.

'Catching Fire' Will 'Look And Feel' Different From 'Hunger Games'

Director Gary Ross has some 'not fully baked' ideas about how to change things up for sequel.
By Jocelyn Vena

Jennifer Lawrence in "The Hunger Games"
Photo: Lionsgate

"The Hunger Games" owned the box office over the weekend, proving that fans of Suzanne Collins' best-selling series were excited to see how director Gary Ross and his A-list cast would turn her work into an eye-catching big-screen sensation.

With so much enthusiasm for part one of the trilogy, MTV News got some scoop about the next film in the franchise, "Catching Fire," which picks up where "THG" left off.

"The training was never, like, tough. It was intense, but it was fun. So I'm looking forward to the next bout of training," Jennifer Lawrence told MTV News about part two, adding that she will even have a very different look for it. She joked, "For the second one, I will have a beard."

(Warning: Minor spoilers ahead!)

With the latest round of the Hunger Games over and Katniss and her pal Peeta standing victorious, there's rebellion under way against the Capitol. But that's not the only upheaval. There's a special edition of the Hunger Games announced that will raise the stakes once again for the two friends and everyone they know.

Ross has some idea of what the next Games will look like. "The arena in the second book is tropical and the arena in [the first] book is forests, so that in and of itself will make for a different wardrobe on the part of the crew," he explained.

"In terms of the cinematic differences in the way I might shoot the movie, I shot this in a very specific way that's very different than most franchises are shot, obviously, and that had a lot to do with the urgency of what's going on and Katniss' point of view," he continued. "I have some ideas about how to do 'Catching Fire' slightly differently, but I don't want to share them yet. Not because I'm being evasive, but just because they're not fully baked. But yes, I think it will look and feel slightly different from the first."

What will certainly get amped up is Katniss' relationship with her escort, the elaborately costumed Effie Trinket. "You know, everything that I loved about Effie in the first place, which is that her stakes are completely tied up with Katniss' stakes, everything she does reflects on me, and unfortunately everything she does reflects very badly on me," Elizabeth Banks said of her relationship with her rebellious tribute. "So the relationship between Katniss and Effie just gets more frazzled, and I'm really excited to see how that plays out."

'Mad Men' Season-Five Premiere: 10 Lingering Mysteries

Many questions were answered, but which 'Mad Men' mysteries remain unresolved following Sunday night's season opener?
By Josh Wigler

Photo: Michael Yarish/AMC

The "Mad Men" season five premiere has come and gone, leaving us with several burning questions answered and one heck of a catchy tune to hum all week long.

But not every question was answered — two seasons later and we still don't know the whereabouts of Sal Romano, for one, not to mention all of the confounding baby drama circulating throughout the Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce offices. Those are just some of the "Mad Men" mysteries still lingering after the season five premiere. Here are 10 more.

10. You do know Dick: So, Megan is in on Don's big secret — some of it, at least. We know she knows his real name is Dick Whitman, and clearly she knows he has some deep-seated insecurity issues. Beyond that, what else does she know? Did Don tell her he witnessed the real Draper's explosive death firsthand? Did he tell her about switching the dog tags while Real Don's corpse was still warm? We're definitely curious to know more.

9. Pete's secret: Megan isn't the only one in the know on Drapergate. Don's former-rival-turned-reluctant-ally Pete Campbell is also in on the secret, having known Draper's true identity for a few seasons now. Pete's always been ambitious, but as we saw in the season premiere, his ambitions are at an all-time high. When will the time come when Pete uses Don's real identity to his own advantage? Will that particular cat come out of the bag this season?

8. Pete's other secret: The other bagged cat that eventually has to come out? Pete fathered a child with Peggy Olson. Trudy still doesn't know about Pete's somewhere-out-there illegitimate son, but that's a secret that can't possibly be contained forever. Five seasons is a long time to go without bringing that particular pot to a boil. Smart money says that Pete's big daddy secret comes out before the year's end.

7. When Joanie met Roger: In other baby drama news, Joan Holloway is the proud mama of Roger Sterling's baby boy, though that too is a secret; by all other accounts, Joan's infant son belongs to her military-serving husband Greg. But when that bundle of joy turns into a silver-haired, chain-smoking, womanizing toddler a season or two from now, people are going to put two and two together pretty quickly. Expect this one to be a major plot point throughout season five.

6. Wherefore art thou, Betty?: We understand that January Jones' emotionally disturbed housewife has been downplayed in recent seasons, what with her divorce from Don, but sitting out of the opening two-hour episode entirely? That was a bit of a shock. What's up with Betty Francis these days? How are things with her not-so-perfect new husband? Thankfully, this seems like one mystery that'll get resolved before too long.

5. Wherefore art thou, Delores?: Ah, good old Lane Pryce. You can always count on that fine gentleman to wear his heart on his sleeve. This time, the detail-oriented Lane has set his sights on Delores, a woman he's only spoken with on the phone and seen in an old photograph. Though that storyline seemed quickly and neatly wrapped up before episode's end, that far-off look in Lane's eye is a dead giveaway: He hasn't given up on meeting this one, not by a long shot. The question isn't when will they meet, but how super-awkward will their meeting be?

4. New hires: Looking at the business goings-on at Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce, it appears that a new employee will be hired before much longer, based on the premiere's end. But in the racially tense 1960s, will the chauvinists and bigots of SCDP be accepting of an African-American co-worker? And what will the new hire, whoever he or she (probably she) may be, bring to the table as a character? We're certain looking forward to meeting the latest "Mad Men" castmember when (or if) he/she finally shows up.

3. The musical fruit: We've already seen Peggy's attempts at crafting creative, innovative ideas for her clients. But Heinz didn't bite on Peggy's elegant bean ballet, eye-fetching as it was. Will we see the better (or worse) idea that Heinz falls in love with, or will Peggy et al lose the client? And if they lose the client, well, it leaves only one question to ask ...

2. When will the ship sink?: Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce barely stayed afloat during season four of "Mad Men." Business has not improved much since then. Depending on how long the bad luck continues, can SCDP really stay open for business? Will Don and the guys have to cut back on their heavy drinking and over-the-top lifestyles to save the company? (God forbid they give their livers and lungs a break for one episode!) If the proverbial ship hits the iceberg, where will Don and the others go? A "Mad Men" without Sterling Cooper in some way, shape or form is a very different "Mad Men" indeed — but perhaps it's a "Mad Men" we'll see before season's end.

1. Zooby zooby zoo: Finally, perhaps the most important lingering mystery of them all: When are we going to hear "Zou Bisou Bisou" again? Because I'm pretty ready for that to be a regular fixture in every "Mad Men" episode from here until eternity.

What did you think of the "Mad Men" season premiere? Tell us in the comments section or let me know on Twitter @roundhoward!
